Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

So drained by RTO

I lose 2+ hours a day just from commuting. I have to get up early to pack my lunch, get ready for work, and drive in. By the time I get into my cube I’m already drained.

Then I sit in a soulless cubicle farm with horrible ventilation under fluorescent lighting next to people who I don’t know or really care to know while I try to drown out the noise of everyone on their online meetings until I can finally make the long drive go home to my family just to do it all over again.

I dread going into work. It sucks the life out of you. At this point, I’d take a pay cut for a remote job. Just waiting for bonus season before putting in my 2 weeks.

RTO has nothing to do with productivity. NYC doesn't care. It's all about crushing employees will and encouraging as many as possible to quit. That's the entirety of the plan, there's no other goals or objectives there that aren't a pack of lies.

Maybe you should make a Tiktok video about it with you crying.

You guys are really hurting our ESG credit score with all that required commuting.

Don’t forget to run fewer errands this week to save on gas 💕💕💕

RTO has another issue besides the ones already noted (like commute times & productivity) that isn’t being called out. SAFETY - crime rates going up, defund the police, riots, no cash bail, homelessness are present and causing issues in most major cities. Crime is putting employees at higher risk of as----ts, robbery, carjackings and random shootings. Employees are also deciding whether it’s even safe to take subways & buses when coming into the office. Also, since many offices are basically empty, there isn’t as many people in the downtown areas. This leaves the employee mainly by themselves while walking to & from bus stops & light rail or driving in and parking in ramps. Before the pandemic and George Floyd, the downtown’s were vibrant and full of workers. More safety in numbers and a place you could enjoy going to. It’s not that way any longer.

Last comment on commuting. Many areas of the company have increased the work load by not replacing staff that left. I don’t want to add 10 hrs of commute time to my already 50-55 hours a week of work time. Back when I did work in the office, I was mainly working 40 hr weeks, so the commute was the start and end of my day. Now the commute would be a longer break time.

Just my perspective & experience.

@ldz false premise. You're assuming that we WFHers aren't planning these errands around our job, yet the poster you're replying to implies that they do.

Additionally, what makes that qq so important that it can't wait 20 minutes? Is every call or IM you make an absolute, must respond instantly, emergency? If it is, why don't you have others who are just as capable of handling it? Sounds like poor staff management on your part.

You claim to be just as productive while running errands, cooking dinner, folding laundry, etc, and maybe you are, but that’s what they all say. Only the definition of productivity you get paid for doesn’t include errands, dinner, and laundry.

Does your unavailability while you accomplish your personal agenda during the work day affect others? Of course you’ll say no but again, that’s what they all say. Face it, people take advantage. If they didn’t RTO wouldn’t even be on the radar.

@fbm has the increase in collaborative technology played a role in this change? Your argument is pointless

@fbm 90% of people used to think the earth was the center of the universe. Things change, get over it.

Just imagine that 90% of the people did it 5 days a week for decades. Keep whining though because you have it so rough

Since so many of us are trying to survive RTO until bonus hits, does anyone know when we find out bonus amount, and what date it will be distributed? Our dept. is supposedly eligible this year but I suspect the amount will not justify hanging on until then.

@dqk I hope you’re aware (though I doubt it) that you have just described the vast majority of white collar jobs in the public and private sector.

Wells Fargo is a place of employment for vaccinated robots who love to do as they’re told and chase that dangling carrot til they die.

My commute is fairly easy, and I like getting out of the house a few days a week. Now, going back to 5 days a week, f that noise!

And before anyone responds with, "Well how did you do it before COVID," let me just say that none of us realized then that we could be just as productive - if not more - from home.

Having seen that I can excel at my job while also being more involved in my family's lives, being able to complete quick errands during the week, saving time and reducing stress by eliminating a long commute, why would I want to go back to an office?

Let's face it, there is a lot of down time in most office settings, whether that's in coffee breaks, lunches, conversations at a desk, or any of the other countless scenarios that can chew through an hour or two per day. Working from home I am able to make efficient use of that downtime: clothes are folded and put away, dinner is prepped, a quick grocery run replaces "let's grab coffee." Time committed to work has not changed in either scenario. But in one instance I get to eat dinner with my family, and in the other I'm reheating a plate after fighting a 1.5 hour commute home.

I feel for you. Been there done that for years… Now I WFH and love it. Actually, I wifi mostly at other locations. No point sitting in one location… Even if I’m being tracked, what can they say if I’m meeting my job expectations? Besides, I take my work laptop with me on PTO. I argue that I exceed expectations by doing that. Lol

I left for a full remote position and I have zero regrets. Only time I have to go on location is once a quarter for all hands.
