Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T needs to be parted out……

So many physical assets, C.O’s towers, right of ways, etc. Shareholders could be rewarded handsomely. Tech giants, flush with cash would be happy to move in. Big changes are coming.

There was a “plan” to decommission all 5ESS switches by 2021. We see how that panned out. They are old but they are PAID FOR.

Does anyone here actually know if they are profitable though? Leadership bending over backwards with overtime pay just to have them consolidated and save on energy costs makes me think overwise. Can't imagine customers being content at all with DSL over fiber/5G either.

People don’t need to subscribe to copper line last mile or POTS to make use of 5ESS. DS3 in, DS3 out. Sure, it’s TDM, so what?

5ESS is still part of the call flow to complete calls terminating to AT&T subscribers of any landline product, and still some mobile traffic. This could be a POTS line, but also includes AT&T Business, AT&T VoIP, etc.

The Class 5 antique switches that Big Ed Head bought is worth $0.00 as copper Land Lines are history. AT&T does not own towers, these were sold to American Tower, Right of Ways are shared with the likes of power companies & cable TV providers so NO VALUE HERE,
and t has sold many of their buildings.
Therefore, t has nothing to sell less they go out of business. Cell service, fiber trunks - there's nothing left.
Thank you Randy & The John. (and ED Head).

This is exactly what will happen.

Shareholders will get very little and C Suite will get all the benefits while accusing the regular employees of earning too much.

Legacy AT&T purchased the IBM Global Network for $5B in 1999. Net Asset Book Value was $800K.

AT&T wanted the interconnection agreements with the foreign PTTs, carrier neutral IBM had. As a carrier, the PTTs would not enter into such agreements with AT&T.

It will be interesting what negotiations and agreements eventually transpire.

One can assume that top mgmt will be handsomely rewarded, even if they leave money on the table or blow another opportunity.

They are, indeed. https://www.blackstone.com/

Game changer in terms of balance sheet.

Similar to the AT&T Solutions value proposition, provide an influx of cash, minimize financial and technological obsolesce risk and convert capital investment to a semi-predictable, flexible expense stream.

Just wait and see.
