Splicers Not splicing

Here in San Diego the Central Offices are
crowded with splicers all day. I guess it’s a free zone. Free pay , no work. Just hang out. Professional chair occupiers.

If you have the ability to see then you can see the big picture. No or little work on a daily basis. Got to be the Tin Man / Wizard of Oz after all that resting from no activity. Please don’t pull a muscle after getting off the chair.

Splicers get time credit for splicing singles but most, if not all of what they splice is ribbons.

The time they get works out to be about 30 minutes a ribbon because of that, plus SETUP steps (which are 2.25 hours) every day they roll up to a job.

It’s gravy and they bank time. If you do 20 hours of work in a day, you look suspicious showing 20 hours on a 10 hour day with 200% productivity. So you only “show” enough hours in a day to get 100% or 105%. Not 120% and definitely not 200%.

Labor to remove copper is too expensive. T will retire it in place & 100 years from now humans will dig it up with their electric ditch witch and wonder what it is and what was it used for.

In the next few years contractors will be removing most copper cables from the outside plant. The government has already given permission to telephone companies to remove the copper. So put away your cutter pressers and no more F1s to throw. 5G is here to stay.

Splicer = Best job at ATT. Top pay for least amount of work

I was a 1st level & a few years ago my 2nd level told me I was responsible for the entire basement in the C.O. - Power, blowers, storage rooms, cable room, splices, everything.
The repair/splicing foreman didn't want to come out "not their problem". So I changed the locks on the cable vault, threw out all trash cans, chairs, cut all N.*er rigged stray wires, closed all open cases and lock tited the scr.ew threads and threw away the pillows in the cable racks where the splicers/repairmen had been sleeping.
Month later received call from splicing foreman, I told him didn't know what he's talking about AND I DON'T CARE. Told him if he had an issue with cleaning up that filthy, unsafe vault to tell his boss to call my boss.
End of Story!

From a management point of view - term employees would benefit from seeking employment elsewhere. Not looking good for them at ATT. Cuts are going to happen.

Must be some truth to this based on the reactions. It never rains. And the wind is only the one going up your behind.

Management hired them and is responsible for providing them with legitimate daily work loads. If management is not capable of providing the work, the splicers have no obligation to find work. They can only do the work assigned and what they can get proper credit for on their performance.
