In 2017 IT rebadged hundreds of data center employees to IBM. Their only options were retire with with your pension and zero severance or go work for IBM with a one year guarantee and risk loose your pension if RIFd by IBM.
@1lrm+1jnhfAfA You are correct. For the Infosys rebadge disaster those who REFUSED to go to Infosys were eventually given the exact same package as the VSP and also they sweetened some of the incentives (same medical/dental coverage and cost, etc) to go to Infosys. Originally it was go to Infosys or retire with no incentive. Then Shankar had a meeting with IT employees in either FL or TX and allegedly a near riot broke out where they had to call police. The backlash grew louder and louder and the company finally offered the soon to be Infosys employees VSP when it became apparent the legal mess they created.
It's been rumored for a few years so I wouldn't be surprised if they reduced the severance from max of 35 weeks to 26 weeks. They $^@*. Good luck people.
I'm not sure how someone got RIFed on a Tuesday, but my pink slip is tomorrow morning. My Sr Mgr is calling me right away tomorrow and then that Sr Mgr is having a call with my 2 direct reports who are also canned, then having a call with the rest of my direct reports via a 'please join a call via this link' situation so there's no in advance calendar invites. On payroll until end of yr for transition of duties, 2 weeks for every yr of service capped at 26 weeks(I've seen 35 reported, must be in a different dept or different level if true), STI paid 100%, COBRA good until end of yr then can pay extra for it thru severence(26 wks) then on my own. Another large RIF already scheduled for Jan '23.
@1ksn+1jnhfAfA actually that's incorrect. Those of us who REFUSED to go to Infosys were given the exact same package as the VSP. See Vz kind of made the mistake of doing both at the same time and they figured for +/- 600 people, it was best to try to avoid a lawsuit. They won't make that same mistake twice.
Remember that they outsourced IT and then gave them the chance to work for that vendor or leave, no severance.
I’m sure they aren’t gearing up to do the same thing with our front line reps.
In a reasonable company concerned where best is their strength, front line reps would be safe. This is no longer that company.
Congratulations 🎉🎉 I'm sure there are thousands of others ready to grab that package and leave the sinking ship.
I also smell BS considering that they were the ONLY layoff that happened today.
@nbv+1jnhfAfA Have you noticed how nowadays more calls and chats are being handled by vendors? and yes nothing is gonna stop this, despite the fact that customers hate talking with someone overseas … Its just a matter of time before CS agents get RIFed too!
Maybe 10 yrs ago you are “safer” than the rest but thats no longer the case…mark my words …
In the meantime, Take advantage of tuition reimbursement, learn new skills and save while you can.
Hopefully tech support reps aren't going to be rif'ed... I've always been told that front line is the safest place when it comes to these things.
Are you wireline or wireless SMB?
They should give you three weeks pay for each year worked if you ask me. Just think how much they save long term for each person laid off.
You are lucky. The remaining employees will die a death from 1000 cuts.
Rest of the teams to follow soon. Take the severance and find greener pastures on the other side.
I will never understand why people can't believe Verizon has layoffs. I was part of the 2015 blood bath so I know they happen. I was just short of 25 years of service.
I smell BS
Surprised it was done on a Tuesday. Must have too many to do to get through them all Thursday.
You've got to be kidding. Sounds like you were targeted. I really have to question if this was underhanded.
On a Tuesday???
What is SMB??
What is VGB??
Appreciate the years of service. Best of luck!!!!
24 x @ weeks = 48 weeks of severance and not a ceiling for the max number of weeks?????
On a Tuesday??? Where you smb retail, smb indirect, inside sales smb? Any more detail?
