I eavesdropped on an executive meeting and heard this. Since the cost of housing in big cities is unaffordable for many team members, wouldn’t it be fun to have an apartment above a branch partially subsidized by the company? Just think of the Wells Fargo team member retention. Team member leaves Wells Fargo, they then need to move out of their apartment. One way to reduce turnover. Same concept as cross selling clients. Make it difficult for clients to leave the company.

We already do this in some remote parts of Alaska. There are even company provided vehicles for some of the branch managers up there.

If the apartment/condo also comes with Wells Fargo toilet paper, count me in. If each individual square says Wells Fargo bank, I’ll even pay a premium for it. With everything else the bank sells, I’m surprised they don’t sell toilet paper.

The difference between what WFC did with customers and Amazon and Walmart is that people are choosing to expand their relationships with Amazon and Walmart based on their products and not being surreptitiously enrolled in programs or sent products they never ordered.
When I leave work, I cut ties to the firm until I login the next day. WFB is a shithole, I want no relationship with the corporation after hours. I feel greatly for those that are on-call and executing changes outside of business hours. It's hard to get the separation from the evil WFB is.
Isn't this the kind of deal they do in places like China, for that alone count me out.
If we have the option to choose apartments, which are fully furnished versus unfurnished, I could be down with that. So, if I apply for a position, in the company, and in a different part of the country, maybe the company would help with relocation assistance. Would save me a boatload of bandwidth and money trying to find an apartment in the new location. Definitely need rent control.
@1yxr 8 was great. It was fun working for WF during those days. Unfortunately, it brought to light team members who made the wrong decisions. Here’s an analogy: If your employer asked you to jump off a bridge, would you do it? WF needs to weed out those individuals with ethics issues.
Cross-selling was a great concept. Many customers would prefer a one stop shop. Why do you think Walmart and Amazon are doing so well?Hmmmm???
I’ll reiterate, we had some very bad apples working for us. They chose wrong over right.
Who would welcome more employer control into their lives? Back in the day this was a practice when companies went into new areas and housing was not available. Think of the housing built for when they were building the railroads. The modern day equivalent is places like China who build dorms so manufacturing can go 24/7.
The difference between now and then in the US is that people generally stayed with an employer for life. Not the case anymore.
Why anyone would welcome their employer so deeply into their lives, I’ll never understand. It’s like an internal version of 8 is Great - the deeper they get their hooks in, the less likely you are to leave them. Pay me a wage commensurate with my skill in the context of basic life expenses - I’ll manage my life from there, thanks.

If cable TV and Internet are free, I’ll do it. Might not be necessary since the company offers free Wi-Fi in the stores, anyway.
I think it’s a great idea. Tired of getting accosted on the subway on the way to work. Tired of missing my trains. Tired of leaving work, getting home, then finding out that I left important stuff behind. I’ll even be happy to work after hours.
