Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T is losing more than it knows

A lot of folks I know are leaving. The issue is their dedication and knowledge is also leaving.

We hired a replacement last year for a retired employ and he lasted 6 months. His reason for leaving - it’s too much work.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why it's important to keep your employees happy and to keep them here. Once most of us are gone, do they really expect the new hires to pick up all of our work AND to know how to do it? Don't make me laugh.

“Old knowledge that is no longer needed.”
Good point with the way they are cutting back the portfolio of services offered. Will probably be residuals for years. Retired a couple of years ago but the issues I saw then was so many applications being built on top of old systems and you need old system knowledge. Might be changing but that could be a bottleneck for years to come.

Network knowledge is most definitely needed and so many have left it is difficult getting any enhancements delivered as there are huge gaps and loss of knowledge. Thank God for Operations folks who help us fill in the gaps daily due to lack of technical folks due to layoffs and outsourcing.

I've worked at T for well over 15 years and several things I've noticed. 1 - is most - if not all - of the customers I've met and listened to or read about over the years absolutely hate AT&T. They are with T simply because it somehow fits their needs and other carriers don't, or it's too much of a pain to switch. I've never heard a customer sing AT&T's praises and shout how great the company is. 2 - is how bad the customer service is, how poorly customers are treated when they call in or visit a retail shop. If they call in I hear complaints all the time about how the AT&T rep can barely be understood because they don't have a decent working knowledge of the English language, or the rep is rude. If they visit a retail shop I hear complaints about long wait times or rude service reps.
Again, I never hear people tell me they had a good time at a AT&T store.
One of the few times I visited a store as an employee the store rep totally lied to my wife about something just so he could make a sale. Got home and started using the device and found out he lied thru his teeth to us. Not surprising since this young guy was so arrogant and egotistical. I left the store thinking the guy was a total pr--k.
Is this a company people want to do business with? Employees want to work for?

Woolworth & Oldsmobile were around for over a century and gone. Sears is not looking good. And some were sold before they closed as with Howard Johnson Restaurants. A 100 tear buggy whip company did not keep up and closed. They needed to find other products for their skill set. Longevity does not insure survival.

The only thing T is losing is : Credibility , Competitive Edge, Reliability, Customer Service, Market Cap and the ability to preserve long term employment…otherwise, all good.

People, don't be so delusional! This company has existed for well over a century, many, many years before you worked here and will continue to exist long after you're gone! NOBODY is indispensable no matter what your job function is within the ranks! The work will get done one way or another, just not by you or anybody else that leaves with their irreplaceable knowledge! Don't kid yourselves!
