Here’s the real issue among different generations at the same company. The culture at WF has changed over several decades. I began with WF multiple decades ago. I truly have to say that the morale was very upbeat among team members. The company was pumping out all kinds of intrinsic morale boosters. The opinion at the time was that WF was a great bank to be a part of.
Here are the highlights of what’s happened since to destroy morale:
-
Financial crisis 2007-2008.
-
Wachovia merger. Marriage pains…
-
Uncovering of millions of fake accounts (Fake account scandal). Finger-pointing…
-
High turnover among executive leadership. Leadership you trusted Abruptly resigned…
-
Uncovering of more scandalous behavior reported in the media.
-
Asset cap. We can no longer grow…
-
The great pandemic.
-
Diversity, equity and inclusion. Going woke.
These are all pain points for those of us who have been around for a long time. I remember the good old days when I enjoyed working for this company. Now, many of us are all shellshocked from all these trials and tribulations we’ve had to deal with over the years. We’re still here because this is what we’re familiar with. Why leave, we’re too old to begin anew. Finally, we may have a nice big fat golden sufferance waiting for us.
