Accommodations B/S

More than 4 months after submitting my accommodations request, hearing nothing, someone finally e-mails me last Friday to say that I must turn in the required documentation within 10 business days or they will close my case.
I responded I would have to make a paperwork appointment with my doctor and that 10 days was likely not feasible.
They told me if I could provide them with the date of my appointment, and that appointment was within 30 days, they could keep my case open.
Luckily, I was able to get a cancellation appointment in a few weeks. I gave Accommodations the appointment date. This past weekend, I get an e-mail at my home e-mail address with a "gentle reminder" to turn in my documentation as soon as possible, and if I am able to get documentation prior to the appointment, they would appreciate it. WTF ?

If they close it before your appointment, all you need to do is open a new request.

I had an accomodation request submitted for over 4 months and the file was suspended which I assume was because of the backlog of requests. About 2 weeks ago I got a call from the area that was processing requests, answered a few clarifying questions and within 3 hours the request was approved.

So my experience was it took a long time for the request to get to the top of the queue but once they started working on it, the process went quickly.

If you have a permanent disability i thought the letter stated that your accomodation will not expire. If they find a way to accommodate you they will and then work with your doctor to determine if it is satisfactory Accomodation. They could accommodate me i guess but it would be quite expensive. No guarantees in life but for now that is the status.

I am surprised that all you need is a doctor to fill out the form. I needed to sign a medical waiver (not limited BTW) but they did stick to the problem at hand. However, they spoke to the doctors twice and i was not included in the discussion. So now that they are just requiring a doctors note great. Your doctor can’t say oh this person must be able to tell I commute. They will state your limitations that are medical related. The HR will talk to them directly about options so there is a “call” at least there was for me.

It was difficult and time consuming and i had to make several doctor appointments. One with the DR and once with the specialist.

Same thing happened to me. But I was eventually approved.

Underlying message from company: We don't give a sh!t about our employees' health.

For at all the a-holes saying “you should have been prepared “ the form for your doctor to fill out is given at that 10 day mark, not when you ask for the accommodation 4 months ago.

You should have had your information ready to go 4 months ago and now you are complaining. Who cares. And now you are posting about it. I’d hate to see the whining you do on the job

Are we talking about legally required medical accommodations or ones we are hoping they make that are not legally required?

Accommodations are BS - you are correct.

Why didn't you get your documentation when you filled out the accommodation request?

Kind of your fault for sitting on it for 4 months.

This is a business. This is a money making business. This is not a church. This is not a charitable service organization. The company is going to weigh your value versus your condition. If the company thinks that you add great value to the company, they will roll out the red carpet for you. If they don’t, they will make the process time-consuming and frustrating.
A word from the wise. This is the very stressful organization. You need to be on your guard at all times. When you think you’re hearing the company sing Kumbaya, They are actually singing welcome to the jungle. If you think you can juggle this company and your condition at the same time, then go for it.
Successful people are also magicians. Their act is performed well in advance of the performance.

Accommodations definitely are not on the side of the employee. I have a co-worker with MS, and they wanted to know if she could start coming back into the office "when her disease improved".
Her neurologist actually had to put in his letter that MS is something she will have for the rest of her life. Id--ts.
