They are not monitoring your badges at all. They are monitoring your location from your computer. If you pay attention, there is something that pops up on the bottom of your computer screen from time to time. I flashes in and out very quickly so you may not even notice it. But that is monitoring your location.

I just received an email from a recruiter about a Wells Fargo Change Management Manager job, whatever that is. WF listing online says 100% WFH. Go figure. If you dont think RTO is just a tool to get people to quit then things like this might convince you.

Problem with that is everyone on the team will show up as badging in and out at the same time, each time.

Logs will indicate whether or not each employee is connecting through VPN or has logged in at the office.

Video evidence also exists to show one person using everyones' badge. Giving your badge to someone else is a security violation.

Congrats, I guess. If this story is true, you and you cohorts have established an easy way of saving the company money on severance. There are multiple fireable offenses stated.

My small team set up a rotating schedule where every week one of us is assigned to bring everyone's badge in and swipe it. So we all show up as being in the office several days a week. Our manager is remote and has no idea. Been doing this for over a year now. Works great. On Friday we all meet for happy hour and exchange badges then. Management is clueless.

Let’s just say that some managers have more durable knee pads than others.

Some groups took the approach where they thought surely there will be an exception process because they wouldn't make people return when it makes no sense (for example, not co-located with anyone). Then it was too late, and depending on who the group reports up through, some were able to get exceptions and some weren't. Then there are the groups that lost so many people, they had to ease up on it. Then there are the groups that went with the nearest hub location vs. random office, and those people are still remote. Not every executive agrees with Charlie, and where possible, those executives have pushed back on it. Then there are the groups that started returning after Labor Day. Some of the managers in those groups also think 3 days in office is not necessary, but figured they would give it some time before pushing back. There isn't consistency because there isn't agreement. Charlie seems pretty determined though. His office experience is quite different from the average person's. Perhaps he should consider going on the Undercover Boss show, and seeing what life is really like for the average employee.

We’ve been told it will affect our performance in 2023. At least that hints that they still allow the 3 days in office. I still have not heard if a “day” is 8 hours. If it is part of our performance, it sounds like we will be tracked individually at some point.

Our whole group does not have to RTO. I live in a hub location. Office is 10m away. The reason why we can WFH is our Manager, who will stand up to the JPG goons.

OP,

Don't be envious. Folks not at a hub next year will likely be let go or told to relocate.

This has been coming for a while now.

Some of us have been remote for a decade and proven ourselves to be reliable hard workers so they want to keep us (they=Senior Management). If you feel you're owed it, you likely will never earn it.

Because we live too far away from an office. If you live greater than 40 miles, you do not need to commute in. Got a cabin in the woods?
