Here’s a group that would actually be more productive after a 50% layoff. Instead of just shucking and jiving at Huts and Central offices they might just have to complete some work. It’s the only group of outside “workers “ that never get dirty. EASY MONEY

Was gonna say the same thing. The number of techs in splicing job titles who don’t know Jack squat from applesauce is ridiculously high. A huge number of them only know basic I&R and drive a bucket truck and that’s what qualifies them as “Splicers” I guess. Same can be said for first line managers. Only a small fraction are really great managers and leaders. The rest are just lazy, unskilled former union techs who didn’t want to work outside anymore.

Having been a splicer in Tx for 17 years I believe somewhere around 50% are competent. Probably 1/3 are valuable.

When I was a Tech in a C.O. I gave a P-d a short and when he couldn't see it on his meter he asked me to run a few thousand pair. I told him H511 NO - tell me what cable & pair you want & I'll send you a tone. Hour later that mo--n calls me & wants to hand off a ticket & he tells me I have to rewire the wool side of my frame. Evidently it was spliced wrong outside for some years and his answer was
a. Me take a Code 5
b. Rewire the frame because the tone shows up wild outside.
Couldn't believe it. When I refused he told me he was calling his boss to transfer it.
When his boss called me, I told him to call my boss - and - Be sure to tell him
that that mo--n wants me to re-wire a few thousand pair.
Splicers.
Some of these so called splicers don’t even know how to do the job. If a handful of
knowledgeable peeps leave the company there will be a bunch of floundering stooges
