After reading about what that Walmart manager did to his own team members, really concerns me about the lack of security in our own buildings. I won’t go back to the office unless our buildings have airport quality security.

Unless they bring night vision goggles, they won't find anyone in my building with the lights turned out.
There's no security plan, no matter how invasive or expensive, that provides better safety and security than WFH. Clearly the powers at be don't GAF.
There was active shooter awareness training offered to managers in Charlotte recently. I attended. It did not offer much for reassurance. Basically said first option is to run. Second is to hide. Third is to fight. Building security will not intervene…will only direct law enforcement to the area.
What a crazy world that we need to worry about this.

@1jpc+1jSzXsXs Cite your source. I have a family member who works for TSA - their airport passes red team tests routinely and they are not the best in the country.
Failing red team tests is dealt with quite harshly so if 95% were failing you’d have 1-2 people manning most checkpoints around the clock.
Well, if we think about it, our bank doesn’t have a stellar reputation. I do know some of our office buildings across the country have fare type gates.
Good question though. Do we add metal detectors? IMO, The more security, the better. No RTO would be ideal.
Tangent, but airport quality security? That's what you have. TSA fails 95% of Homeland's Red Team tests. We-pons and banned items sail through checkpoints. But you keep thinking the security theater that is a budgetary black ho-e is useful.
What to do in the event of a shooter in the building is covered in the safety instructions that are supposed to be out in an easy-to-reach location. It is also briefly mentioned in that one required training class. That being said, it can be an insidious fear that seeps in and grows bigger. If you are located in Charlotte, where there was a shot fired through a window, the concern might be larger than for someone located in a spot with a lot of available exit options. A quiet, mostly empty building might be safer to one person, and scarier to someone else. I was in a job many years ago where some staff members were laid off. The reaction of one person in particular, involved slamming things, and making his anger very obvious. If he had been armed, would he have done anything? Maybe. I sat a few seats over from him, and the way the news was communicated could have been done a lot differently. There was also a shooting at an office building in the city where I reside. So from that perspective, I can see why it might be a legitimate fear for someone. We shouldn't live our lives in fear, but for some people, that is a factor too. It adds to the unease, and can build resentment for being pulled to an office. For me personally, I would be a sitting duck, and so that's something I don't dwell on when I go in.
Going postal seems to be a red-state thing. Wouldn't worry too much if you're in one of the sane states.
FWIW I shop online to avoid going into stores whenever possible. If I do go to a store I'm done as quickly as possible. Too many crazies out there.
The OP is a bit overboard but in seriousness I make sure I’m sitting in a hotel cube I have at least 3 egress routes from and more than 1 external exit. I was concerned about office whackos when we first went back in large part due to the tenor of many of the posts on this site.
Thankfully there hasn’t been anything to worry about but I still make sure I have options. Know your surroundings, know those around you and be aware of what’s happening around you. It’s basic personal safety.
Op thinks a minimum wage "security" guard is going to protect them. They'll be the first ones out of the building. Airport level security is a joke too. They aren't protecting or providing security to anyone. Those TSA fools are just screening cr-p through metal detectors and herding the sheep through the lines. What a mo--nic post.
Let’s think about. Most of your responses are spot on. I just wanted to raise awareness that we’re sitting ducks in our own buildings.
Since so many others on the site are asking for almost everything under the sun from this company, what’s wrong with asking for a little bit more security?
Of course, we can’t live in fear about going to the grocery store, movie theaters, shopping, etc.
That being said, another excuse to keep hazard pay? Lol.

OP has a point even if goes too far on the level. You rarely see security in the buildings. Most times they are unarmed. So crazy people that enter the buildings have free rein to do crazy things.

That's silly. I guess you'd better not visit walmart, movie theaters, grocery stores, restaurants or any public place for that matter. Crazy people are everywhere and their numbers seem to be increasing. You alone are responsible for the safety and protection of yourself and family.
Why stop there with your asinine request? Why not White House level security? Actually, why not a private detail for every employee? I can't leave the house now.
