Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I believe in you all, don't give up

To those of you who were riffed last month , I wish every one of you best of fortune in landing a new gig before the end of the year. I'm not going to tell you the usual dialogue that its going to be ok and this is all part of life, because in reality, its not, and we were dealt an outcome that was the result of choices we did not partake in. I would strongly urge you to avoid discouraging yourself by browsing through endless linkedin posts about layoffs. The market may be rough, but new recs continue to be posted daily. Fate will have a spot for you. Focus, and don't ever lose hope. You'll likely not even hear back from most applications, but don't let that bring you down, and don't let anyone discourage with the blanket news about a bad job market. You got this!

Life is great out of Vz. Don't waste your time with Vz's post rif job assistance company - they just get paid for numbers to sit in stupid waste of time sessions. Linked In has loads of opportunities that pay well, offer remote work and are so different from Vz's bs, politics, etc. Take some time off if you can then go to the next must better phase.

I was 26 year veteran despite what some poster says , I didn’t WANT to be RIF’d!! The market sucks and I will end up taking a huge pay cut.

My question is How many people were let go? I’ve heard 4K but there is no confirmation

Bottom line, I am scared to death about my future and that of my family. I haven’t planned well for retirement and it’s now bit me in the a-s

Total id--t - we dropped people who actually impacted the bottom line rather than the multiple Directors, VP’s and (god forbid) SVP who suck the air and $$$ out of the company & biggest contribution is authoring T-Shirts the employees
to motivate the masses who will NEVER wear them

@fjc+1jQ9Gw7l - RIF vs VSP was much more than just 2 vs 3 weeks. RIF max 17.5 yrs service, VSP max 20 years of service - 35 weeks vs 60 weeks max - almost 6 month difference. RIF you're done 12/31, VSP you could have been kept on another 6 months, thru end of June. 6 months more to save, max out 401k to lessen tax hit of severance payout, start preparing for job loss.

@joh+1jQ9Gw7l - you have received 7 downvotes as of the time of this writing, and no upvotes, but you make a point:

People saying now for years since VSP “give me another VSP and I’ll quit!” the only difference is 3 weeks per year of service vs 2. If they wanted to quit, they’d have quit by now.

You’re either prepared for retirement or not.

@joh .. People were RIF’d who did not want to go. They had tenure and/or made too much.

I completely disagree, I was in the thick of it and SA’s, sales, managers, other folks that I talked too did not want to leave. Only a certain amount when they were impacted after getting noticed knew it was a good thing and a new start at something else.

Stop with the nonsense. No one was riffed, who did not want to go. You have people lining up for a RIF. They could offer another and people would be running out the door.
