There is a married couple on our team who share the same direct manager. The manager also hired them onto their team. How is this not a policy violation as they have the same direct manager? It's created multiple issues for other employees within the team.
This manager has also hired and then promoted these same people they worked with at another company. They all have a relationship with the manager from a previous company. Again, how is this not an issue?
You are just trying to start trouble. In these situations, managers and the married team members (or team members who are dating and suddenly decide to marry) go to HR and disclose the situation. HR decides if there is a conflict of interest. If one spouse does not report to the other and neither are dependent upon one-another for performance of the job, there is not a conflict. Mind your beez wax.
It is a violation of the conflict of interest policy and the personal relationship policy - raise your hand for risk and report it
Why would anyone expect HR policies to be followed in the bank of lack of compliance?
How about a manager that hired her wife? Qualified applicants that didn't get hired would have legitimate claims of nepotism. Why would we even go there? Hiring practices should be beyond reproach. More unnecessary lawsuits!
We have a husband and wife under different managers in the same department of 50. Both are excellent employees. They do have an advantage, which is sharing their individual access to information on each other’s teams. Information is power, especially in our department, where our managers desperately withhold information in order to hold on to their top positions.
This OP reads like sour grapes.
Whatever happened at a previous company, unless it was some sort of documented regulatory infraction that can some how carry over, is completely irrelevant.
Hiring a married couple on the same team is an introduction of risk to the org but not necessarily any kind of violation if, as previously pointed out, there is no reporting hierarchy established that puts them in line with each other.
I can’t say I’d want to work in this particular team but if the two are peons and remain peons then whatever. It’s not clear what “issues” have been created but there is always a chain of command to fly this flag up.
Instead of complaining, you should offer sympathy to the husband who gets no break from his wife.
So, are you unhappy on this team? Or…are you miffed because politics are annoying? Overall, how’s the team performing? Are the managers good? Bad? Do you want/have growth potential? I’m missing the “so what” in this post….

But what is the concern if coworkers are married? How would that affect the rest of the team unfairly?
as long as there isn't a direct conflict of interest as such as them reporting to one another or having any say over the others work and thru have documented the relationship, which we all have to do at this point, all is good.

There are plenty of examples of this . Some are in the same team . A lot on technology, actually. Why is this new ? This is the least of problems . Compared to fake accounts and fake hiring, it is not. Now wait! Isn’t husband and wife hiring a violation?
