Anyone else participating in the Workspace Anywhere Virtual Environment (WAVE) program yet? Did you buy your own device? Any other thoughts/details on this program?

And because it's possible for my device to be seized in a lawsuit (I work with data that sometimes get scrutinized), I'll be buying a cheap dedicated laptop for this.
We were told that our personal devices CAN be seized for legal reasons.
Best Practice: do not mix "work stuff" and "personal stuff" on the same device.
Absolutely do not participate in WAVE with your own device. The legal ramifications are enormous.Your personal device can and will be seized by court order, When approved by a judge. Best practice: Use company provided computers for company business only.Don’t believe me, hire a lawyer, do your due diligence on past cases regarding similar policies. It’s bad enough having to sit and spend hours in court doing depositions.

No, because you cannot save data to the personal device, or pull data from WAVE to the personal device. Wave runs in its own container. So if anything came under scrutiny it’s already inside the walls of WF.
Question... Say there's a lawsuit, and the work performed by some theoretical WAVE employee were to come under scrutiny. Could that employee's personal device be seized?

If your computer breaks - that’s a you problem and not a WF problem. You’d be responsible for any repairs or upgrades that need to be done to remain compliant and able to connect to WAVE. Same goes for remote support - they can’t connect to your computer, but they can connect to your WAVE desktop and fix whatever needs to be fixed there.
So what happens if your personal computer breaks? Will they pay for repairs? Will they be able to remote in and fix anything?

If accessing from your personal device you'll have to give it permissions to the camera but HID/specific USB devices are always allowed.

Actually it does reduce updates quite a bit. You no longer have to wait for installs on the apps because they exist on a different layer. You basically get a new machine each time you sign in.
If WAVE allows access to the mouse, screen, monitor, and camera, then I wouldn't exactly describe it is "container"-ized.

Sorry to break it to you, but that won't change. The only difference is that your OS isn't on your laptop but on a virtual machine you will remote into.

But WF wants to get out of life cycle management of hardware. It is only a matter of time before there is a d-mb terminal in the office and those who are working remote have to use a BYOD.
The trick is to hire an illegal to move your mouse around and click in different windows for $15/hr while you are working your second job.
Have them rotate between computers when you have to actually do some work for one of your jobs.

WAVE doesn't require the use of a personal device. WAVE will soon be the only way to access your work at WF.
Can't wait to be cloud everything so I can wait as long for every other app to respond like it takes Outlook. It can't even process basic mailbox rules in real-time.

Hope these id--ts are tracking latency and cycle time for tasks done in Wave versus desktop instances of applications. I've noticed a HUGE slow-down in processing time for basic tasks like opening applications since we migrated to Office 365 and its cloud-based processing. WAVE will only make things worse and reduce productivity even further.
Horizon Wave has been in pilot for the past year or so, but it has gone mainline in the past 6 months. All that means is that people still have a WF computer and are trying to use Wave because they are told too. The next step, which starts in mid sept, is for the certain LOB's that were told to use Wave as much as possible, is to start locking down the WF device. What that means is that the only app that will really work on your WF computer is the Wave shortcut, edge, etc. Everything else, Office, etc. will be locked down. In other words, at that point you can only use Wave to do any of your work. There isn't any UAT or Pilot for users having to use their own PC. They have a looooooong way to go before that phase as lots of apps don't even work in Wave as of yet. Heck, parts of teams doesn't.

Nearly worthless. It might keep your screen awake but the data Teams and other apps gather definitely can show a difference between real work and any kind of jiggler app. They can see how long you read an email for, whether or not you forwarded it or deleted it, how many seconds it took to do it, what app you switched to next, how long you spent in that app, and so on. It’s not just about keeping your status in the right spot.

They already monitor low activity and it would be inside the container app which cannot do anything to your regular operating system at all. Try again.
Put their container inside your own personal VM. Problem solved.
Agree with the previous post. It’s snooping software. Solution: Vaydeer mouse jiggler on Amazon. It works great. Runs off USB power. Put your laser mouse on top and go have fun for the day.

Charlie et al will have to take a pay cut in the tens of millions combined and give me a tech allowance before I use any personal device.
Read the fine print. What you do in the container is monitored. what you do outside the container, like texting d1-k picks and cute animal pictures to whomever, can be inspected for cause if you use any work apps on your BYOD.
I'd say they would be hard pressed to come up with a legit reason if the only work app is SecureID, but the container, beware.

Like I said, be aware if you use your own machine. Ignorance is an example assuming every software developer is a Mormon missionary.

No they cannot download snooping software onto your device. Not only would it be a massive privacy issue that would certainly land them in legal trouble, it’s also illegal. The app used to access WAVE isn’t even given out by WF. It’s in Windows Store, Android Store (chrome books), apple App Store, etc.
Now when your in WAVE they have every right to monitor all of the sessions or actions performed on your session just like they do with their computers. They could know when it’s minimized, they can see low activity, they may be able to see what apps are open or what actions are performed, which is just the same as they do now. But they do not have access or permission to install anything on your local device other than the needed app for connection to WAVE.
We were told that you had to come into the office full time if you didn’t have access to your own device when this is implemented. So far it is limited to computers and not tablets. It is interesting to see us go from no computers, to desktops, to laptops, and back again.
Just make sure you don’t use the PC for personal means. The company could download snooping software onto that PC.Partition the drive and heavy duty firewall it.
Wave doesn’t force you to buy your own machine. That part of the program isn’t even finalized yet.
I recall some big wig in the company announced one or two years ago about turning every PC into a dummy terminal.I haven’t heard anything since.If they can pull it off, I’m in favor of it.Tired of all these pushed updates that often crash my PC.
