Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Any truth to the rumor that the dinosaurs in the C suite are looking to force us back 5 days per week soon to increase attrition?

Where in workday/teamworks can I add this secondary work location? When I search for RTO or RTO FAQ there is nothing obvious about adding another work location. Thanks in advance for your help.

“ Nobody that I know of on my entire team has RTO'd at all”

What team are you on? I want to join it. Everyone on my team has RTO’d and I’m sick of it.

You can't "volunteer" for severance.

Milage from my house to assigned location is about 80 miles. I'd take severance if I could, but my manager said "keep working from home".

Nobody that I know of on my entire team has RTO'd at all. Can't be sure about every singel one of them since we're scattered across the lower 48 states, but I can tell you that nobody I work with has stepped foot in a WF office for at least 2 years.

Just add the closer location as a secondary work location and go to that one. It’s not difficult to do and if you look at the faq for rto it tells you how.

@2uud+1icqL2Vr If the mileage from your house to the office you are assigned is 40 miles or more, along with a few other conditions, you could have volunteered for severance.

They had me assigned to a location 42 miles from home when there was one less than 10 from my house. People on my team and partners in both locations. The way the voluntary severance is worded you forfeit the ability to request it if you accept the location change.

I told my boss that I would not step foot in the location 42 miles away and be marked forfeit so either pay out severance or move my location. They moved me.

Last week I spoke with some old teammates (I moved to a different area of the bank) and they said they only go in one day a week! I was stunned, every message in my new org has been three days/week since RTO began in April. My only complaint about RTO is that they moved me to a new location after COVID so now I have to drive to the WF location furthest from my home. I live in a hub city with at least four other WF towers/locations I pass on the way to my new location where I collaborate with exactly zero people on a daily basis. I don't really care about driving to my job, my only ask is allow me to move to a building closer to my home, easy peasy.

It seems to differ by department, but in the last 10 years there was never a 5 day per week in the office requirement in my group.

Is there anything of substance to back this up?

Don't quit, if they don't offer you a package, draw it out as long as possible and make them fire you over it. If executed correctly you'll get your severance either way.

I'm not close to the C-suite, so can't give feedback there, but my group was recently told in writing that we were going to full-time-5-days-per-week in the office, starting in September.

Personally, I don't think it's going to happen. I'm close enough to retirement - as are many of my team mates - that I won't do it. By the time they get around to disciplining me for it, I'll already be gone.

I don't know of anybody who isn't in management in my group who wants 5 days in the office.

This is how you go from 30% compliance to 0% compliance. Bring it little NYC man.

Wells Fargo actually started on a plantation in the 1860s in Alabama.

John Seawater Wells, a slaveowner, began holding people's money for them. (Sometimes he gave it back.)

He and Franklin Fargo, a local dandy, began an illicit relationship (for those times), and before anyone knew it, the first checking account was opened. (It was overdrawn and force closed less than a week later.)

Back then, the main gripe among workers was RTP (return to plantation).

Horse manure was everywhere. Fresh air was in short supply. It was a very atmospheric time.

@1uqq maybe you can use your close relation to executive management and enlighten them on how little employees trust them.

PreCOVID I was WFH full time. So yeah, sure, I'll go back to that. Thanks.

I'm hearing the hybrid model is here to stay. I'm not C Suite, but work closely to leadership there. The "C" Suite can't understand why these rumors persist when they said hybrid was not changing.

@1spr oh yes, I agree there WILL be consequences, and it will get announced retroactively like every single comp change has been.

but to the question posed by the OP - 5 days isn't a tool that's needed for any goals. attrition is solving itself and the "stick" will be comp and performance rating for not coming in 3 days.

@1hjr+1icqL2Vr That’s kind of the thing. There are going to be consequences. Front runner idea at exec level right now is dinging bonuses. Just like all the other comp changes over the last few years it will be announced AFTER being in effect.

So, if you’re not going into the office your 3/2 or whatever your business area is advertising and taking a bonus cut is worth working from home to you, nothing to worry about. The only problem is how many days to be in is not always clear - at least in Tech.

SvB has tied himself in knots with what the Tech stance is. On an Agile team? Only for ceremonies. Some “Agile-like” teams (looking at you chief of staff groups who thought it was a good idea to get on the registry for creating reports) are saying 1 specific day a week for the whole team to be in - regardless of whether the team is in the same location. Whatever your manager says? Whatever your manager doesn’t say?

How many “points” you have at whatever point in time the C-suite makes the decision on what it means will be what matters. Good luck.

Attrition had slowed to almost nothing from 2020 to late 2021, and since about 4Q last year has been running wild. so much so that in some areas - believe it or not - they are commissioning studies to find out why there are so many people leaving.

Current RTO compliance with 3 days a week is terrible. i'm in a major hub, and on a floor that's supposed to seat 150 people the most i've ever seen on any one day is 8.

So - there's no need to use RTO 5 days as a means to get ppl to leave - they're already leaving in droves. And if there was the need - telling people who already aren't going in 3 days to come in 5 days - won't matter until there are some kind of consequences - and right now there aren't any consequences.

Yeah the plantation did not have a cafeteria or voluntary employment. Stop crying and leave. Typical WF entitled m-ron. No 5 days, 3 days and top 3 hubs are filled and looking to expand in new hubs.

Unlikely in most groups: there isn’t really a need for it, and they simply don’t have enough office space right now in the hubs. They are still trying to get people in for 3 days, but look for that to be on your year end review this year, knocking you down from Meets if you aren’t complying most of the time.

They going make us go in every day just like a plantation. And still do nothing about the rude casheirs in the cafeteria.

More likely to go back to pre-covid of you must be in office 16 days a month. Most folks worked in office Mon- Thur and Fridays at home. Its more than fair.

Heard CIB is, not sure when though. Another way they can fire people. People not in hubs are at a big risk and next in line I suspect.

Positions that were previously remote are only being posted in hub locations now. It’s a matter of time regardless of how we want to work.

Each LOB is different. There will never be one model. There wasn’t pre-cocid, there won’t be one now.

I think they would have to try to get the masses to do the 3/2. Based on the amount of people in the office.

I interviewed for an internal position. HR recruiter told me Wells will be going back to the standard operating model of 5 days in office and then asked if I was still interested in the position.
