I started as an external hire in Cloud App support group recently. Looks like the timing for the move was completely wrong. Any advice? Should i start looking for another job ?
Our manager said in a team meeting that our team is not impacted by the layoff . Are management in O believable in issues like these ?

I am not sure where you get the idea about ‘16 months ‘ . i spent 1 , 3, and 3 years in my previous 3 jobs . I plan to work with O for next 4-5 years , depending on the opportunities they give me . You guys are talking as if changing a job after 3-4 years of working with one company is a crime . If you read another thread on this forum about support org salaries in Oracle , is filled with stories of people who has been working with one company for close to 15 and 20 years and drawing salaries that are half of their worth . I don’t want to end up like them 15 years later in my career. If that requires hopping companies every few years i will definitely do it .

Moral of the story : Don't be stuck in a single company for more than a few years , especially when you are starting your career . Finding a new job helps you acquire new skills and helps increasing your income as well.
4 jobs in 7 years, this company deserves to be completely saddled with people like you. Please do your thing after 16 months and leave once your trained up LOL. They deserve to have a revolving door with their policies.

I agree it is not fair to the old timers.
But the reason for me to get this starting salary is because my current salary is 106 k .
I got to this number in 7 years from 76k in my initial job by changing 2 jobs in between . O is going to be 4th job in my career

The senior people in your team that you will going to for help probably make probably 75k if they have been there 10 to 15+ years.
If one of the senior IC4 people at 75K wanted to get their salary up to 118K they have no options.
This company will then let that experienced person leave as they won't sync up their salary to the 118K current day value.
The company will then find a new candidate that has Zero Oracle experience and will pay that candiate the 118K. Hopefully that new employee will be up to speed 16 months, it can be almost 2 years+ on many teams before you actually start really giving back.
Great policy right? This is the way the support organization and many others work.
FYI
Isn't "Oracle support" an oxymoron, like "jumbo shrimp"? Just sanity checking here.

No , infact Support is one of the safer place to bein right now .
Don’t give in to fear mongering. Plenty of teams expanding. People jump on the hate Oracle bandwagon all the time. Next layoffs will likely be hardware (trending -10%+ Qo1) and/or communications apps. Lots of marketing folk take the first whack. Make no mistake, Oracle is a sales-first company. But writing is typically on the wall for places before they get popped.

While the other respondents are entitled to their opinion, there is no reason to think they know anything about your particular situation.
Do you know of anyone that has been laid off from your org? I know that I don't. This could mean that maybe there are more layoffs coming, OR, it just might mean there was a lot of redundancy in other groups but not in Cloud Apps, where there is still hiring going on.
OP - Your manager's reassurances are worth nothing.
There are many of examples where the team has been let go and the manager told afterwards. Your manager says you're safe, but she may be the last to actually know.
I'd recommend finding a back-up, while you still have an income.
I trust my manager but that does not mean I trust Oracle's top top top leadership to not make decisions based on merely numbers; not performance.
Also, the rules and the impact would differ based on the region and country you are in. US has no laws, basically. Hence, so many layoffs happen there.
If you are in France for example, I would assume, your job is pretty secure.

Yea, there are so many positive voices, particularly at senior levels.
to be fair to the OP , it is not easy to identify how would a particular group in a company function after you join . Especially when changes of this magnitude happen to an entire BU . As of today , Oracle has 163000 employees and feedback you get from different sources can be completely different depending on who you are talking to .
You didn’t check out this site, along with the hundreds of unvarnished reviews for O online? Never heard any whispers about the mean and hard culture of the company? Constant dribble of layoffs going back to 2015?
Consider it a lesson for your next job search. Check reviews. (You’d do that if you were booking a hotel). Set up a Google alert or just search for the hiring company, manager, technology. Read the career and product sites carefully with your BS meter tuned to high.
Read the customer reviews for the products. Super easy if it’s a mobile app.
It’s a bit of a war stance, but that is what it takes. Remember to interview your new boss/company just like they are interviewing you. Do a background check on them like they would do for you.
Sometimes despite best efforts, you still get stuck in a so-so job and/or company. It happens!

yeah i get it . However i am wondering why did they hire me now if the plan was to do layoffs at this point . I am really worried about the instability that i have brought for my single income family
