Add VDI to the flaming dumpster fire that is WFC. End goal is to have employees use their own device when not in the office. Should you need help you are are SOL; very little tech can do to assist you.

If all I need to do to keep my job is buy a laptop, I'll be on Amazon in a heartbeat. Layoffs are looming, in case y'all don't know.
I would honestly be okay using my own laptop for work. I rarely use it otherwise anyway so it would actually give it a purpose.
I agree that we shouldn’t be too worried. If you’re employed here you are aware of the widespread incompetence and understaffing.
Wells is just trying to keep the lights on and is likely not interested in spending time snooping through a random employees private affairs.

Relax keyboard commandos. Using your personal device will be an option, not a requirement. Not all of us are paranoid about using VDI on our own device. There's a greater chance that this site, thelayoff, is tracking you more than any leakage from the Horizon client that powers the VDI.
VDI is going to be f'ing garbage. Yet another way to sc--w employees and put more expense on them.
It's one thing to have thin clients or VDI for call center people. It's quite another for tech people. This will end up being yet another cluster f**k

There's only two reasons WF does anything anymore. Getting out from under regulatory cr-p, and pi----g employees off enough that they quit. I'm guessing VDI doesn't have anything to do with the former.
“Should” and “will” are very different things here. I’m pretty sure upper management’s view will be that if it’s not acceptable for you, you’re free to leave.
Yes, the end game is you use your PAD (which is a really cool name for your personal device) :). You download a few apps, and off you go surfing the virtual world. But that is still in pilot and will be the last phase as they still need you get you on Horizon on your WG device and acclimated to it. Once that is done, they lock down all the apps on you WF device so all you can use is Horizon. Once the bugs are ironed out, bye, bye WF device and time to use your own.
Yes, you can use an Ipad, but good luck attaching multiple screens, that's a hassle.
Neighborhood seating will be going to thin clients, that means that there will be a tiny desktop attached to the screens that has the horizon shortcut on the desktop, and thats it.
No, WF should provide all equipment needed to work remote. A two hour drive to the office is not acceptable, and only SVB and CS can afford the gas to get there.
So they are rolling our a tool and promoting it as a way you can work anywhere. Then they tell us to go back to the office because that’s the best way to work. Um, seems about right.
Well, you won’t HAVE to go out and buy your own. You only will if you want to be able to work from home anymore. You can forgo buying your own computer for the VDI but it will mean 5 days a week in office for you.
lolz, the absolute last thing I want if there's an issue is "tech support". I got it guys, go back to drinking Starbucks and doing stealth updates in the middle of the night that sc--w things up.
Can we run VDI on a virtual desktop like Amazon Spaces or another cloud-hosted virtual machine? It’s my virtual desktop virtual proxy.

Order of priority:
- Stockholders.
- Clients.
- Employees.
- Vendors.
Making money and saving money, that’s what banks do. Especially, the public entities.
I'm not using a personal laptop for company use whatsoever. And, what makes you think the economy is going to get better anytime soon?
Again, nothing to worry about.
- Install Virtualbox
- Install Windows (free version)
- Use WF VDI from within the virtual machine
If they try to jailbreak they wind up in another jail and see you running a stock windows box.
Typical WF, rolling out plans our peers did years ago and are now abandoning because of the risk it represents.
If all we need is a web browser, then go out and purchase the cheapest tablet computer you can find. I do know one thing, lugging a big old company laptop, in my carry-on luggage through the airports, is not ideal. Though, it is somewhat fun logging in and performing work in the airport lounges while I’m traveling the world. Vote NO on RTO.
I'm confused. Are they going to take back my company-issued laptop and tell me to use my existing personal laptop or buy a new one? Or can I keep my company-issued laptop until it gets to End of Life or doesn't work anymore?
Is HR or the hiring manager is telling external candidates considering job offers that they will need to provide their own equipment? Or is that a wonderful surprise and first taste of WF when a New Hire finds out they have to provide their own?
You just go out and buy a new laptop, and don't view anything unacceptable as they will continually snoop at what you download.
Chase is a sh---y company full of smug new york as-----s. And we are led by their D team. If they have VDI it makes good sense for us not to roll it out

Not having persistent desktops when you log out is ridiculous.
Windows had a feature called roaming profiles that allowed you to maintain a desktop where ever you logged in 20 years ago.
This has been in place at Chase for years. Friend of mine there bought a Black Friday Chromebook and uses it for work only. All you need to do is be able to get to a browser.
If you don’t want to use VDI when they roll it out they’ll just require you to come use the terminal on the desk in the office. Can’t get to an office? They have a solution for that too.
People are delusional if they think rebellion will stop these plans. Slow them down? Sure. Once the economy turns, and it’s getting there, fast, they won’t think twice about you being gone.
