I’m a branch based team member. Premier Banker. My branch consists of myself, a business banker, service manager, and teller. We are short staffed 3 bankers, 2 tellers, and a branch manager. I feel that over the last 9 months, I have not done what I was hired to do: assist affluent clients. Will this be used against me when PMR comes along? I don’t even ask if we are ever going to hire another qualified person. Our hiring expectations have gone down hill and it shows by how much turnover we have. And then to top it off, I get grilled as to why I’m helping mass market customers on a daily basis. I’m to tired to explain myself, I’m too tired of looking at that screen, literally I log about 10 complaints per day.

Half of all branches are expected to close by 2025. Take it as you will.
Classic setup for failure... Sounds like it's time for a career change.
If you are a premier, I assume you have your Series 7? What are you sticking around for? You can find another job pretty easily.
Ugggh! I’ve been there in another role here at WFC. I, literally, had to go see a therapist for guidance in figuring out either how to survive my job, or how to find the time/strength/energy to launch a job search. You HAVE to change jobs and/or companies. I think most here would tell you that it’s not going to get any better in your current role.

Your position is a very fast revolving door. The only other revolving door that’s faster are the tellers. I highly suggest you take some of the advice and apply for positions further up the food chain. You’re allowed to apply for different positions every year. Good luck.
I was once in a similar situation at a chronically short-staffed branch at another large bank. It went on and on for months. I was constantly having to perform customer service functions and even fill in at the teller line instead of selling, and instead of thanks I was browbeaten about my sales. It was toxic and soul-crushing and my mental well-being deteriorated. I stayed up late every night because I knew if I fell asleep, the next thing I’d hear was the alarm clock signaling time to return to this intractable he-l. I was too dead inside to launch a job search or interview. One day a regional manager called to yell at me about a customer who’d complained about a long line one day I’d been drafted into filling in as a teller (again, not my job). That was it; I wrote a resignation letter on the spot, demanded my manager audit my teller drawer out with a witness present, turned in my key and badge, walked out. There was a flurry of plaintive and angry phone calls that I ignored over the next few days (apparently the branch couldn’t open one day that week due to staffing levels, a huge no-no for bank regulators). I spent a month resting and exercising, did a few weeks of laid-back temp work, found a broker-dealer to hire me and sponsor for the 7 and 66, and I’m now very happy and well-paid at WFA. Pull the plug if you’re in a toxic situation, regroup, and start over.
The poster below who posted about job security is right. However, you definitely need to set better boundaries and make sure your branch mgr, service mgr, and business banker are all helping mass market before you ever get asked to (and you honestly never should). You have a business to run and that’s why you’re getting the salary you’re getting.
Every premier banker I’ve ever seen that isn’t producing uses the “I have to help mass market” excuse. Don’t fall into that trap! It’s all in your head.
