Hey we're moving to the cloud...warning: rant incoming

Great, except the vast majority of people in the company don't have cloud experience (except for private cloud). But many of us are totally capable of doing the work.

Tech proceeds to post jobs which require a few years of cloud experience.

What? How in the f**k are we supposed to grow in our careers w/out the ability to use our knowledge of internal systems and business but lack experience we had no way of getting?

Oh, and let's just go and hire people from the outside that don't know jack about the company or our systems.

I'll also note that in some places, managers are hiring their buds that I know have zero cloud experience.

Ahhh, the perpetual "cloud migration project to save boat loads of money." It's been going on for 5 years or so. It would be a great case study to track all of the experts we hired, the incredible amount of internal resource time spent, all vendor and technology expenses that we've incurred in the name of cloud migration. This may work at smaller, more nimble companies, but will be a constant struggle here. The end result is we now have multiple technology architectures to (try to) manage, multiple environments to secure (differently), multiple environments to be audited, etc.

@1fpj+1iQRyuBd Moving to cloud will not likely show any savings, at least not for a bunch of years (if at all). Plus there's a new data center planned for Dallas.

Google or Microsoft or AWS Sales has promised billions in savings..

Management here no doubt has promised millions or billions in savings.

you have to leave Wells to get the experience, and to survive in the marketplace, frankly.

Cloud is locked in a silo that Robyn doesn't want to share.

It is completely a move to centralize power.

We can’t continue hiring contractors for technology. Our CRM system is so full of zombie code, we’ve been cleaning up the mess from bad ETL’s ever since. Come to think of it, maybe that’s why I’m still employed thanks to zombie code.

And there is at least a year learning curve to understand the complexities of how all of the systems work together. Especially in mtg

No problem. India is ready, willing and able to support cloud from existing skill sets. The end is near Brother.
