Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Layoff Locations

From what I can gather today everything I am hearing is that Layoff's are being done in US.

At time of this post (now 2 PM) on East Coast our offices are now closed in Europe and I haven't heard anything from teams over there about Layoffs. It's only 11AM on West Coast and I have already heard from teams there about departures - I suspect both Texas and California will be reporting large layoffs.

To gain $1B in savings we are probably looking at 8 -10% of workforce being let go when this is completed.

Oracle CX in MA (based in Burlington) is pretty much gone. Entire Commerce team let go (with a few “maintenance” people exceptions). There were ~280 people in the group according to Aria.

“ Depending on the EU country, there is no such thing as an 'employee at will". Nor is there the possibility of unilateral decisions, believe it or not, the employees union has to agree to layoffs before they can occur.

If O didn't know about all of this, they will soon find out - which may not be a good thing for US based employees who may make up the difference.”

Of course O knows this. They’ve been in the EU for decades. They have been laying off for probably as long. They just work those numbers into the plan. And concentrate on US based actions.

For US companies who want to have a workforce in the EU, they will learn the hard way about the pitfalls of employing personnel over there there.

Cerner is HQed in Kansas City, not PA. A good friend was let go there this morning along with their entire team, so Cerner layoffs are definitely happening.

You can forget about any layoffs in Europe. I worked for another SW company based in Germany and everybody ( and I mean everybody) has an employment contract.

They are covered by contract for 6 months before they can actually be let go. If the location has a works council ( for us this would be a union) you can forget about letting anybody go - won't happen for years.

This will for all intent and purposes be an all US layoff event.

There are stricter regulations around layoffs (redundancies) in Europe. What this means is European Oracle employees be notified in the near future and laid off within 90 days.

Cerner's HQ is in Pennsylvania, we would have heard something by now if they were letting people go... haven't heard anything about cutbacks there.
