Econ PhD here - Advice for lower paid employees

Do not share this information with everyone you know otherwise we'll end up with like what we saw with toilet paper. For your families food safety, please think about buying extra staples over the next couple months. Don't go nuts or overboard and raise alarm bells with other shoppers, if you have 10 50 pound sacks of rice, alarm bells are going off. Google foods that doesn't go bad. Obvious items are beans, rice, honey, sugar, staple items. I'm not a food expert here, research it. I'm almost 100% sure there will be extreme food shocks very soon. I grew up on the bottom end of mid class, i don't want you hurting here soon. Start building a big buffer right now.

How come we know this on an anon board but the commodity futures markets haven't heard about this?

I'd think they would figure it out and adjust prices of futures contracts accordingly.

Also, coming from an PhD, it's very unusual to have just one side of the story. I'd expect (at least) some critical thinking to be applied.

I am also a PHD that Wells hires to do some stupid work here. I want to let y'all know that most of the PhDs that Wells has are the worst ones and no university/college wants them, and that's why they ended up with Wells.
So ya know how good OP is.

Why are there even farmers at all anymore? Just get your food at the grocery store. It's not like its the 1990's.

Same with peeps complaining about gas prices. Just go electric car and plug it in overnight and don't worry about it. No gas needed.

Can you say DuH???

Pretty funny how my post full of truth got edited, but the fat shaming one? Eh, no problem. Good grief. The mods in this place are ridiculous.

Farmers and food processors have been raising the alarm for months, about their costs and supply as well. Prices have gone up some, but it will get worse, no question in the minds of anyone "inside" the food industry. The only question is how much worse.

"Econ PhD" lol, sure. The Infowars crowd will believe anything if it's framed as some rogue scientist imparting his wisdom that the masses still haven't figured out yet, especially if it stokes their paranoia. I'm sure this time the world is actually ending though.

Most of us could go 6 months without ANY food and we'd just be down to our correct weight.

Follow the agricultural news. OP might sound doom and gloom but grain planting is at its lowest levels in literally ever. Prices will rise as supply drops.

I live in a state where the Mormon faith is popular. The Church requires members to keep a minimum of 3 months food supply on hand at all times. These folks are not alarmists, they are planners. Insulates you from inflation, helps if you lose your job, prepares you if the unthinkable happens. It’s not fear mongering, it’s preparation for the worst.

OP is correct. We’re going to have major problems very soon and the masses will go berserk.
