Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Interesting comment by Stankey Time Magazine in article

https://time.com/6191372/john-stankey-att-leadership-brief/

"Do you think the current restrictive immigration policy has contributed to the labor crisis?"

"Do I think a more informed immigration policy would be good for the United States? Yes, I do. What the pandemic taught us is that there’s an awful lot of work that can be done from any place and that companies are learning to run much more distributed operations. If that’s the case, if we can’t bring the workers to us, that would really not be healthy for the United States [because well-paying jobs will go to remote workers overseas who would prefer to be in the U.S. and could be contributing to the U.S. economy and communities."

Stankey has already pushed the offshore model to the brink. In IT nothing gets done. No communication between onshore offshore teams. Local PMs and Mgmt have no control.
H1Bs are easier to control and overwork and thats what he wants.

Take away #1 from the Time article:
"My landline is $10 or $12 a month. Are you losing money on the landline business? "
Stankey: Ten dollars does not cover the cost of the landline.

Reasonable Person: I don't know anyone who only pays 10 or 12 dollars a month for a POTS line. I'd like to meet them. I pay a lot more than that.

Take away #2
Why has buying entertainment companies proved to be such a minefield for outside companies?

Reasonable person: It is not minefield for companies that know the business. They do what they know how to do, and do it well. Stankey, not so much.

Take away #3
Right after the deal was announced you paid a visit to HBO headquarters in New York. The meeting was leaked to the press and you were presented in an unflattering light as a sort of clueless telcom guy that didn’t really get the creative business. Is the entertainment industry more of a snake pit than the telco industry?

Stankey, you got your a-s handed to you. At this point you lost all and any faith in your "leadership". You can talk about how different corporate cultures are motivated, but those would be best served by your silence and more importantly your absence.

Take away #4
A lot of what you laid out that day for HBO and got so much blowback about, like increasing volume and production, has paid off. HBO added something like 3 million customers in the last quarter.
HBO is doing better once rid of AT&T.

Take away # 5
On a macro basis what is your reading of the health of consumers right now? Is it still your view that people are a bit flush?

Stankey: There’s still an awful lot of money sitting in people’s bank accounts from what I would consider to be some of the government-subsidized distributions that took place and changed people’s cash position.

Stankey, do you really think that the few thousand dollars the the government sent out a year ago is still going to be their bank accounts and those folks just itching to send it to AT&T? Most people are trying to keep gas in their car and keep their mortgage from defaulting .
The sycophants that post accolades toward you on the AT&T insider are a very small minority. They follow you around downtown Dallas like baby geese looking for their Mama. You do not have the confidence of the workforce and I don't know if you ever gain that credibility.

I read this interview that he absolutely will use this as the reason to hire more overseas employees instead of US citizens. Gives him an excuse to do what they've done for the last 20+ years: hire cheaper labor than US citizen.

Insider headline also posted the article and included the title: "AT&T's CEO Stankey Is Facing the Most Challenging Time of His Career"

He wasn't up to any other challenge and if a reduced size company is even more challenging, we're doomed.

Journalists and their softball questions, sure way to secure the next interview with executives.

Surprised that Stank didn’t peddle the relationship equity garbage. May be the guy has some restraint, nah, not possible. He just keep on spilling non answers.

Just remember that if the Stink's lips are moving, he is lying. And if his lips are not moving, he is thinking up his next lie.

I've tried to figure why this individual (John Stankey) is still the CEO after so many demonstrable and catastrophic failures. The only reason I can think of is that he has the "shovel". He dug this ho-e deeper after Randell and somehow, someway the BOD thinks he is the one that can fill that ho-e back up.

Keep Stankey away from all microphones! He is a proven loser, nobody wants to hear anything he has to say. He's lucky enough to only have a few more years before he is replaced by a competent CEO.

Just remember that if the Stink's lips are moving, he is lying. And if his lips are not moving, he is thinking up his next lie.

Stink is a G L O B A L I S T and he has shipped tens of thousand of jobs out of the US to India and other $hitholes. He cares NOTHING about his workers in the US, except getting them off the payroll for free without severance - by rebadging them and letting IBM, Accenture, or Tech Mahindra do the layoffs after the US worker trained their replacements.

Stink's only care is to line his pockets as much as possible, make T as Toxic as possible, make employees, shareholders and customers irate, getting his head waxed on the corporate jet, and hosting Pajama Parties!
