Layoffs today?

My boss just got laid off and apparently there are many affected. Anyone else have news?

What’s funny is that most of the dummie* that post here are too stoopid to use webphone so they can provide details of any kind.

Why can’t folks in the know give details - which organization? Under which VP/AVP?

That must have been one of the "collaboration teams", they never do anything but they collaborate really well...

There are too many senior bargained for employees that are willing and ready to get off payroll if only the company would give them some kind of severance offer. The problem for management is that T still needs their hands-on technical skills to achieve the goals T has put in place. The chances of technicians receiving any offer to leave are slim to none at least for the next couple of years. It's not our fault that we chose the right place to be at the right time...this time around!

Real classy of the 30 year craft guys coming in here and saying how layoffs don't effect them.

Yeah well, us Union dregs do nothing but cost the company money. At least that what you tell us.

As a thirty plus year craft employee, I would be more than happy to leave to save a younger employee with a young family. I’m working right now to fill time and to pick up a few remaining toys.

“ At least they got a package…”

What “package” is this of which you speak.? There is no “package”.
Non bargained for gets their severance in accordance with the severance plan. That’s it.

30 years plus craft guy here, I would gladly change places with any T employee and step aside to leave AT&T just to save someone that is being affected by layoffs. The problem is, T doesn't offer employees with tenure a severance package which I think is wrong. I know of many 30 years plus employees that won't be impacted by layoffs that would be all too happy to accept a severance package just to save a younger person's job. We're ready, we're waiting and hoping for an offer to leave, but T just happens to see things differently and would rather terminate employees that aren't entitled to a large severance package.

The process they are using for laying off seems a bit underhanded.

You can't trust them any further than you can throw them.

I'm over 65 and bargained for and have over 35 years and will not be getting laid off. Layoffs affect only management, mostly.

This is exactly why many of us, gen-z and millenials, that telecommute, have other jobs telecommuting. And no, it's not double dipping and no conflict of interest.

I hear all of Voice Transformation (in the old Network Integration group - now Integrated Services) got the axe today. July 6 being their last day. I don't know how many people that is. I heard a further rumor that most everyone that services any voice services will be notified by EoB today. That is, everything but IP Flex, IP Toll Free and one cloud-based platform (maybe Office at Hand?)

Ge-z OP, I assume you have been on this board before. Why not provide some details about city, dept, etc. basically a useless post. If it was a single person it was likely performance related.

This company is full jobs that report on how others do their jobs. If you are in one of these jobs, it's a matter of time to be on the cut list. Transformation org is under the CFO, and they are reporting on network projects, doesn't take a genius to figure out that their services are not needed.

"Was your boss just about to qualify for MR75? Was your boss just about to turn 65? These are the usual milestones that Ratbert, our Evil HR Director use to terminate people at Toxic-T."

Did your boss have Windows 95 skills in a mobile/digital world? This is a typical milestone.
