Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Has everybody given up?

Are we now at the stage where hybrid is accepted as a fact of life? Nobody seems too upset over RTO anymore, which makes me think that those who said to give it some time for the dust to settle and everybody would get over their objections were right. Are we truly that easy to bring in line?

Wonder how that works for people under medical accommodations to telecommute. The big question will be if they create a disparity for disabled employees by forcing them to purchase such expensive equipment to continue following doctors orders.

You wouldn’t necessarily, but what I think he’s saying is Wells (for one reason or another) will require that you cannot use just any old computer to connect to the virtual desktop but limit the options to a specific list. For security reasons they would likely have requirements that it’s not pre-owned or limit what you’re allowed to do with any computer you also intend to work on, despite it being your personal computer (kind of like the “bring your own device” for phones). So with people being required to buy an entirely new computer for 1-2k that they will be limited in what else they’re allowed to download onto it, or come into the office to use a station there that can connect to the desktop, a lot of people will likely just come into the office. The last I heard anything about them implementing this was pre-pandemic though, and I haven’t heard much since, so I’m not entirely sure this is something still on the horizon? I mean I know they want voluntary attrition but I don’t think they want the level of attrition that move would bring. So many people would quit they’d have a hard time keeping the lights on.

Why would you need a new/fast PC to run a browser? A raspberry pi should be plenty.

I’ve been here almost 10 years in the PHX market and have worked in several sites. The tower downtown was probably 70% full on a given day. Chandler maybe 40%. North PHX maybe 50%.

So this idea about filling the offices is something that has literally never been the case.

I was on that RCoP call and although he didn’t say it explicitly, I think CPG is not seeing the returning headcount that they want or expected. My own tracking of the area I sit in bears this out- only about 30-40% of the number of people who should be in the office are actually in.
So I’d say OP is wrong- people have voted with their feet and are just not showing up. Or coming in once a week to stay off the naughty lists.

You have to have your own computer to work remotely. If you don’t have a computer that meets the required specifications, you will have to return to the office full time. I have not seen what the specifications are yet.

The whole point of virtual desktop is that the processing and storage is done remotely (i.e. virtually). That is the opposite of a reason to come to a physical office.

The move to virtual desktops will force everyone back into the office 5 days a week. I hear you have to have a computer to access it from home and it will probably have to be a newer and faster computer. This will force many back into the office.

Everyone is just waiting on a severance check. Play their silly game while we all look for employment else where and hope Charlie doesnt sh!t tank the stock any more before we leave.

They host meetings the third Fri of every month. Always been like that.

I looked up the meeting replays and didn’t seem to find the right one. The last recording I was able to find was from 5/18 and at the end of that call they said the next meeting would be 6/17

No office in Frederick Maryland. Employees told they will be working remotely, FOREVER or I guess until they are laid off.

RCoP will be disbanded. If I've learned anything about WF, they want feedback until the feedback is not what they want to hear. Teamworks comments being a major one; open questions via chat during meetings another.

Once they realize that cpg is a bottomless pit of wasted money, they will...and they can downsize that group as well. Win-win.

If there was a recording of that call, it likely conveniently got destroyed. I joined during the 2nd half of call and was pleasantly shocked. There's NO WAY they would let that backlash be made public.

Look up virtual CoP or something in Teamworls/Workday search and see if you can find replay.

RCoP = Remote Community of Practice. I think they rebranded ot to Virtual Workplace Community of Practice. Led by Jeffrey Martin, with leaders from CPG and other areas of WF. The last call was epic! Not sure if there's a replay, but the fireworks and bravery of so many employees was spectacular. They did not cave into following the propaganda of the meeting agenda, which was "Value of RTO". Instead, the unruly masses pelted speakers with logic against RTO. Well done employees! Don't let up! (I'm a manager and I fully support pushback.)

You people on this site are frickin dreamers! Wells invested bundles on real estate and they are not going to see it used 2 days per week. If anything, we might have to go back to 5 days per week.

I agree that that's the idea, but for a lot of roles if the current worker quit a new posting would be approved and in this environment the new hire would probably cost even more money. Doesn't seem like a "win" if it's all about the $, though I suppose it would save money if you eliminated the role 2 years later, less severance.

Not given up.

People might go in 2 days a week instead of 3.

People might stop trying so hard to meet arbitrary deadlines, especially on in-office days.

No more meeting flexibility on in-office days - send meeting declines, causing things to be pushed back.

There are MANY ways of protesting geriatric RTO. I've only listed a few above.

Keep voicing your concerns both inside and outside of the bank. It DOES make a difference and IS being monitored.

This isn't over yet.

Well, considering we used to have to be in the office 5 days a week, I'd say we are better off now than before.

Yeah, opsec is a thing, I can't talk to the people around me. Not about work anyway. The less they know the better. But hey, I'm glad I spent $10 on gas to talk to random people about the weather.

I’ve always wondered why employers always act you are the best thing when hiring you and then once hired, you are treated like dirt. RTO would make more sense if you had assigned seats and worked around people on your team or in your job. I don’t work with anyone here. I am literally just doing the same thing in the office and at home. Talking on the phone, emailing, and using a computer. I don’t talk to anyone else around me.

Your accountable for your work product, which in many cases requires no physical presence in a building. I was remote for years before COVID, and I cranked out work like a boss. There were zero complaints about my productivity, then some twerp from NYC who doesn't know my job from a turnip decided that I should waste time/money/availability to drive to a building with no peers, reports, or manager, because "reasons". The only apparent reason for this is to motivate me to quit. You can say "love it or leave it" all you want, there's no BUSINESS NEED for this. None. It's all about voluntary resignations.

Apparently, OP didn't attend the Virtual Workplace RCoP call last week. It was total mutiny over RTO. Meeting leads lost control of call due to barrage of anger over RTO. It was fantastic. Didn't let up for an hour!

I can't imagine a top US bank that hires "the best and brightest" doesn't have faith in its own hires to operate independently. It's almost like they don't hire the best and brightest, which is why they don't trust any employees.

The detachment of business schools and modern-day workforce needs couldn't be more clear.
