OH GOOD LORD! Now, after the RTO program we're getting invites to a "Work Area Security Program" meeting. I kid you not there is a slide stating "Open work areas increase visibility and potential risk"... WELL DUH. But guess what was missed when they spent the ooodddllles of money on these open, drop in cubes? They missed the cable locking system. When I had an assigned office I had one at my desk and would lock my laptop up every moring and unlock it every night to store it in a locked cabinet or take it home with me. NOW...in their infinite wisdom THEY, with their RTO program, have made our laptops much less secure!! Way to go brain trusts!

Pretty sure people would want my Mac. Not everyone is dragging around a 3 year old minimum spec piece of trash. I don’t have any security devices for my machine, either.
@vsb+1haQucTH People have stolen laptops in the office before lockdown and RTO. Laptops in boxes waiting to get picked up by FedEx also stolen at the office before lockdown and RTO.
While the laptop itself might not be worth much the time it’s going to result in being non-productive for the person it was stolen from sure can cost the company lots more.
Not to mention how disgusted everyone gets knowing a thief is among them. I don’t think morale could get worse but thievery definitely would not make it better.
Ha ha....the laptops are encrypted is the answer to just leaving them laying around? Ok...cuz no one in the history of technology has ever been able to UNencrypt anything....yeaaahhhhh...

No I don't think anyone wants the laptop...but they might want the stuff stored on the laptop. And the secure floor ...yeah there is no such thing. We badge to get in - but how many times have you seen someone hold the door for someone else... they just won't admit RTO was NOT a well thought out plan at all!!
@vkl LOL! You honestly think anyone wants your 3 year old laptop? Everyone is going VDI anyway, so it just saves the asset management people from having to collect your device when you get a magic box.
@vkl+1haQucTH You're not very bright, are you? You're not at home, you're in the office. If you have people coming through stealing laptops right off your desk your office has bigger issues than a security cable.

There’s also risk of theft. Laptops aren’t free and, in case you haven’t noticed, we’ve got some budget issues.
Unless you leave your laptop unlocked or affix your password to it, there's no issue. The drives are encrypted and the data is useless unless it is unencrypted.
When they say "security", what they mean is "security theater".

In my remodeled location I have noticed a whole lot more ceiling cameras than before. I assume they’re going to rely on them if my laptop takes a walk because they did not issue me a cable lock for RTO and my previous lock vanished with the rest of my stuff when they packed it up for the remodel.
This was brought up on the RTO prep calls and the answer was that the floor should be secured with badge access, so not to worry about your laptop. That being said, at our office they are changing the entry points so only one person can go through at a time, hoping to mitigate access.
That is exactly my thought. I was wondering if we were supposed to take the laptop everywhere.
