I went to a Fintech that paid 30% more plus 100% Remote but got laid off recently. I still don't regret leaving, given layoffs and arbitrary firings are now very common at Wells Fargo and the atmosphere was miserable.
It's strange but i have found it's a lot easier to explain being unemployed from a more progressive/startup company (due to general economy) than Wells Fargo. I get far more interviews even now then when I was at WF. There clearly is a negative sentiment associated with the employer.
It's risky out here, but the longer one stays at WF the worse it gets. Eventually you'll be unemployable anywhere else after staying too long, so the stability is a farce. It's better to get laid off from a startup as it's more accepted as the norm than a big bank. Plus the severance package they gave me is equivalent to what I would have received from WF for much more tenure.
What gave me the push to leave was the prospect of not having a good reference from the new leadership anyway, the stack ranking system and RTO non compliance penalty on potential Bonus. All of those things would reduce my morale for job interviews, compensation and job security.
If you're at the point of diminishing returns i would advise leaving for another opportunity ASAP and cashing some of your 401k if necessary. You only have one life to live and wasting any additional years at Wells Fargo is no longer worth it, given you are disposable under Charlie just as much as you would be in a startup, with the added frustration of bureaucracy and non-career advancing work you'd be saddled with.
