Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Hiring Practices

Let’s temporarily ignore what you see in the papers.

How many of you have seen someone that you know for a fact doesn’t meet the minimum requirements for the role they are in?

For example, a 30 year old Sr. Mgr or Director. Someone that has moved up three times in two years. Etc.

Where is HR? Do we validate anything in this company?

Just more evidence of the inevitable. Sick away that cash. This baby is burning and it’s accelerating.

When I was in a Private Graduate school, this is what I noticed:
Most of my fellow students were children (literally) of Senators, Congressmen, CEO's, Judges, High End Law Firms, Professional Athletes, Actors/Actresses/ and "Entertainers".
Everyone of them went to upper Middle Management positions as their FIRST jobs. They only had academic experience.

An incredible amount of energy was spent with students to influence their parents to make donations to the college and in the future to have these new high level managers to make donations too.

In the last few years major news stories and criminal cases have been exposed on how certain parents "paid" to get their children past the rigorous qualifications to get into selective private colleges.......Except those that TODAY have token DEI privilege.

Have one of these on our team. He was weak in the interview but previously worked for our manager so he told us this was “our guy”.

Flash forward and he’s about 60% as productive as others on the team in the same title. Our partners do not like him, have escalated about his demeanor and lack of partnering on every large project he’s been assigned. Manager reassigns the work to someone else and when we complain he’s not pulling his weight the manager says that he’s not mature enough to navigate the partnerships well.

So he’s making as much as everyone else in the title but working about half as much while causing more work for others. Valued member of the group. /s

None, but clearly there are some considering how many stupid decisions come from the op committee.

easy look at the people not even registered though the position requires it and they never get it...some are high up enough that they shouldn't even be interviewed without licenses

What nonsense! The DEI is a joke . It is a facade to get unqualified friends of current management in to senior levels. That is the only way this shameless management can continue to stay (at least in tech, for sure).
My useless friend from JPM who was only a VP till 2021 is now a tech executive here . And he is one of thousands of such hires.

Don’t blame DEI initiates . We are misusing the label of DEI to continue promoting fraudulent hiring .

Its simple, put down that you worked at JP for 2 years on resume, easy promo or hire.

Stupid question. Wells Fargo is a "Who you know" not a "What you know" company. Will never change. Get use to it.

Where I work, if you are not part of the inner circle, you don't move up as well as if you are in that circle. But maybe it is the same at every bank?

H1B workers from the very large and hostile country

(1) Visible projects are frequently reserved for them. If they cannot complete because there is no one to copy from, you will be required to complete for them.

Eventually they will get rewarded for the work you do, leaving you behind.

(2) They are very focused in extracting what you know and bringing "the documents" home.

(3) Once they have a sizeable group, you will probably not survive in the same department, unless you have unlimited knowledge to transfer to them.

(4) They are collecting information that cannot possibly be very useful to them as an individual.

(5) As soon as they gain the upper position, they will legitimately assume they have superior knowledge and nitpick many things you do. Even it is you who helped them on the knowledge at the first place.

(6) They will never make mistakes, because mistakes are always yours.

Have I left anything out?

Some of these hires at a senior level that are not warranted are so that higher salaries can be offered. Unbelievable how inexperienced some are, and concerning in these economic times when these people are in credit. Same with the managers. Too young to have been through other downturns.

My manager is hiring all new people at the most senior level on his team. Thor of us already here are being left behind.

Agree. HR said they do not validate that someone has met the minimum requirements they rely on their answers and if they validate one they have to validate all.

Absolutely, a number of times.

There's a person in my chain of command that management has moved around and promoted at least 3 times in 2 years. Pretending like this place is a meritocracy is hilarious.

I've seen it too many times to even admit.
