Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs incoming

Now the stock price is in the tank and FCF is projected to be lower. Raising cash flow is done by LAYOFFS

It's as simple as this. If you're not expecting to see layoffs - major layoffs - sometime in the following few months then you are choosing to ignore the writing on the wall.

"Sure, the sales force will play a major role in sustainability of the company,"

If that's the case we're screwed. Commissions drive sales in fact in some instances it accounts for almost 60% of your annual comp. This year's quotas that we just got less than a month ago, are ridiculously unattainable! Commission leans heavily toward revenue so as we move customers to IP based from Legacy services we are writing down our revenue big time and getting paid NADA! Its not sustainable!

I heard a rumor the company is interested in purchasing AOL & Yahoo. JS believes we need both to compete with VZ, T-Mob and the FAANG companies

Are managers in charge of a team of 20 people less likely to be laid off? I think that's why technical people choose to become managers because they feel they are safer.

Moving forward, T will be driven by the blue collar force within the company and no longer by the suits. Sure, the sales force will play a major role in sustainability of the company, but it's the hands-on personnel that will be bringing the company back to its
iconic stature it once held! Of course, this is providing the suits make the right decisions for the future.

Layoffs, Perhaps! We shall see what HR has in store from the top. Hopefully, the job market stays strong and those impacted if in-fact there will be any, can easily get a job elsewhere and in a very short time!

Revenue is down. So what are workers doing? They should be working on things that bring in revenue or they should go somewhere else.

On the bright side, after the dust has settled, T's debt now stands at just $135B.

Layoffs should be driven by lack of work, and that's it. This whole idea that AT&T is teaming with idle workers that can be laid off on a whim - if true - would be gross mismanagement.

That said, there is some news regarding wireline.
https://www.lightreading.com/broadband/fttx/atandt-fiber-gains-accelerate-as-problems-at-wireline-biz-unit-mount/d/d-id/779156?
"Revenues shrink as the company puts a stopper on certain legacy voice and data services, including VPN services, and faces a reallocation of government spending away from some of those services.

As such, AT&T is pressing ahead with a plan to "reposition the asset," AT&T CEO John Stankey said"

As revenues shrink, so does the need for as many employees to support wireline. I think "reposition" will include layoffs or outsourcing. But, absent that business unit, I see incremental layoffs driven by automation and real estate consolidation.
