Our HOA has a landline at our pool (required by our county to pass inspection) provided by ATT. The bill was increased to $740 per month from $60. Anyone the real reason behind the increase ? (not CEO needs more money etc).

I had two business landlines, cancelled one and my bill went up to $3000! Called customer service and they told me they wouldn’t lower it unless I signed up for Directv.
Check the contract. Sounds like it went to out of contract pricing. If it’s an analog line there are much better and cheaper options now.
Wonder if a 1200 pair copper cable with 40 working customers that takes days to repair with employees working 24/7 is still a thing being done.

An increase like that is sure a question for AT&T. Maybe an indication on the bill. Otherwise seek cheaper solution. Maybe get internet so the residents have Wi-Fi while at the pool, and use a VOIP service for like $20.

For the few T employees that haven't heard, T is getting out of the POTS business. There is no money to be made given the copper network maintenance costs. Raising the rates will force customers to disconnect more quickly, which is the end goal.

T has made official requests in many states to sunset POTS. They are required to make the request 1 year prior to it being in effect. The year was up here in 21. Engineering has been sending out jobs to have the copper severed at the last ped that has a working customer so they can’t sell new service beyond that point. This is an extremely rural area so we are looking at the last few miles of cable that can be 12 to 15 miles from the office. I’m sure it will continue until they are at the pole right behind the C.O.

I just had a customer provide me a bill for $17,000.00 for a fdpa circuit.
For those that know what that circuit is also knows it used to be a few hundred bucks depending upon mileage.
Now tell me it’s unreasonable to think a $60 bill could now be $740.
If it’s copper the rates are being increased sky high.
For the love of God just look at the bill. That’s obviously not right. You either have someone making overseas calls or the wrong services applied. 🙄
When pricing was regulated, the cost was shared by every customer. Now maintaining lines for business is only shared by business customer totals for that exchange. So you have fewer customers sharing the same or higher maintenance costs. Same for res. Less customers sharing the same or higher maintenance costs on the res side. The only way bills will get lowered will be by reducing labor costs to maintain. How many techs want to be fired to help the customers out?

Seems reasonable. Best way to eliminate all the POTS lines in the network. If they do this to all accounts with POTS lines, customers will all disconnect their lines immediately!
The same copper infrastructure is supporting fewer and fewer customers. Hence, the fixed costs of that infrastructure per customer goes up.

Have you looked at the bill? What does it say? Have you called an AT&T billing representative to ask why the increase happened? How in the world are people on this site supposed to know why your HOA's phone bill increased?
Get a fixed cell phone. It looks just like a landline phone but operates over the cell service.
T is raising rates on all services with copper infrastructure. You will need to find a voip equivalent, if there is one.
Any and all copper related services will continue to see price increases. This has always been Ts way of getting customers to transition to a newer service.
