Charity

I work in a midwest office. We use Uni__d W_y as our Charity. Just curious if that is company wide?

Your charity is your own business.

But years ago there was a list going around that had everyone's name on it. If you "contributed" to United Way then your name was scratched off that list. If you DIDNT contribute then your name stayed on that list. At the end of the day that list was given to the district manager.

So I don't know if United Way is a good charity or not. But just because of that shakedown I won't give them one cent.

I found out years ago that you can designate a certain charity. But if you do, the amount you designate will be deducted FROM them in the general pool. Best to contribute DIRECTLY to your favorite charity and not through United Way.

United Way is a scam. They are 1800 charities under one umbrella, so you don't know where your money is going.

It could be funneled into the pockets of the director as he directs money to businesses he owns and his underage girlfriend (see William Aramony).

I miss the online charity auctions.

I remember the days of the UW campaigns, and the emails from managers if you didn’t participate. They were pressured to get 100% participation rates. Remember how just clicking on the link would demonstrate “participation”? I remember the mandatory meetings about it too. I’m glad those days are over.

Every dollar donated as a WF employee is a dollar that WF gets to claim THEY have donated.

The bank as a whole used to use UW and had a massive campaign around it, with lots of pressure to donate and “participate”. WF was typically the number 1 for all United Way promotions and gobbled ip the good feels. When Scharf came onboard that was all rescinded. We now do not have the massive corporate campaign, though you might have one for your region or LOB.

United Way and the rest are there for one reason - to give corporations positive PR. At the end of the day, help people who need help. If someone is struggling, buy them some groceries. If you want to give to a charity, St. Judes Hospital is a great organization. 13% for advertising, 5% for administration. The rest goes to research and treatment. It's also non-political.

No Komen, no Wounded Warrior, no United Way.

They are all scams. I give my time or money to local charities directly.

United way is a scam, they give maybe a dime of every dollar to the needy while the rest goes to the company. At least when I give my money to the guy or gal at the stoplight I know exactly where it’s going

I give to them like I give to the frauds who ask for money while your at a stoplight. In other words, I don't.

@mek+
There's another charity(unnamed) that i was involved in. They had roughly 120 million in revenue they received from individuals, i found about 50 million went toward ads and marketing, 20 million went to they management pay and things like pension plans for them. End of the day only about 2 of the 120 million went to fixing problem. Everyone wanted to fell good, but the end result was feeding leeches.

Cant stand them - top heavy with large exec salaries that should instead be going to the intended beneficiaries. I absolutely refuse to donate anything to them. There is a website where one can check what % of one‘s donation actually reaches their intended purpose and does not get gobbled up by „overheads“. Beware …I remember there was a scandal in that regard about the UW top exec‘s excessive salary a few years ago ….
