If a financial Union does not get the Corporations (owned primarily by 401K's) to bend to their will (tyranny) they would go on strike, right?
This would mean US citizens would not have access to their money/wealth until the Union demands are met.
Is this REALLY what you want? How long can YOU go without using your "card" or have access to cash?
Based on the impact to US Citizen money/wealth - would this even be legal?
Former long-time Teamster Union member here. Am also a former manager for that same company, so I have seen it from both sides.
Unions thrive in companies where there is an "Us vs Them" culture between management and employees. WF is a fertile petri dish for a Union if one ever gets a toehold here.
Unions build on that "us vs them" culture and literally feed off it (through hefty Union Dues, much of which goes to campaign contributions for one particular political party - not commenting on that further so as to not derail this discussion with politics).
Unions protect a lot of people who rightly should have been fired. However, they also protect good people whose only crime is that they're not "liked", or people who had a workplace accident in situations where there's a zero-tolerance policy (common example would be an accident on a loading dock through no fault of the employee, but company policy states that they must be fired anyway).
Unions had a place in 1880's USA. Maybe in 1950's USA. But in the 2020'2...? That's stretching it a bit.
Where they REALLY need unions today: China.
Questions for pro-union crowd:
- What sort of timeline are you expecting changes to happen? Pretend today employees voted to accept a union, please lay out the timeline you are expecting to see various things happen.
- When people say higher wages, what does that look like? Across the board, lower paid employees only, what would the cutoff be?
- What behavior are you seeing from management that a union would curtail?
"I am terrified at the prospect of “Jessie McCool” or some other low level paper pusher representing employees interests"
If the employees aren't representing their own interests, no one is. Or I suppose Charlie is, and we can all see how that is going: layoffs only make his stock compensation more valuable.
Ah yeah no thanks
I am terrified at the prospect of “Jessie McCool” or some other low level paper pusher representing employees interests
No white collar workers put union membership on their resume, and you wouldn’t list what other benefits you get here either. It’s irrelevant and does not come up in the hiring process in any financial institution I’ve worked for, it’s not 1950.
Just increasingly desperate fear mongering from the shills.
He did give campaign money to the Democrat grand wizard of the Senate, Chuck Schumer. So that's that.
I’ve worked for a union before and it was great, the dues are more than made up for by the increase in pay and benefits. Pushing back against sh---y employers like WF is what they are perfect for. They’re your only line of defense against the bu-----t we see come from this place every day.
The conservative trolls and shills wouldn’t be here if they weren’t so terrified of them threatening Charlie’s profit
Surprised this isn’t in other media, why the guardian?
Stop trying to control other people's lives (and let Charlie control yours)
Post ID: @1dbf+1h2OOIOR
In other words: yes, you’re Chuckles flunky. Or a right wing apologist. Same thing basically.
It has nothing to do with Charles or "fear mongering", I don't want to join your little club and I sure as S don't want to pay for it. Stop trying to control other people's lives. You can do whatever you want, I'm not doing this. Deal with it.
@1kzw every working out of the Charlie and Co. union fear mongering playbook is pro-charlie, yes. It's not rocket science.
So anyone who doesn’t agree with unions = pro-Charlie? Interesting conclusion.
Lots of Charlie's lapdogs in here crying about how bad unions are. Clowns at the top will do anything to avoid doing right by their workers.
If it makes life harder for Chuckles and/or costs him some of his bonus, 100% for it.
lol @ fluffing her job title. She’s not a senior compliance officer.
Wasn’t this the group that kept posting in teamworks comments when those were available?
I’m all in for anything that puts Wells Fargo’s Board and C-Suite’s feet to the fire. I hope more articles and legitimate complaints are made public. WFC’s response to the article is PR bs. Executives want to keep you quiet, docile, and in fear for your job. How far has “working directly with leaders to address matters of concern” gotten anyone with this new regime?? Laughable. They are PROUD of their efforts to step on employee’s throats on their way to the top.
We can all agree on certain points:
Wells Fargo is run by a group of old-money white men who could not care less about the employees, the customers, the bank, or the regulators. They care about one thing and one thing only - that is lining their own pockets for as long as they can get away with it.
I say let’s make them miserable.
Looks like the people have voted
Having a membership to a white collar union on your resume would be the ultimate kiss of death for your career
Not true. What if our biggest frustration with this company is that it’s too liberal and it’s frustrating how people get away with abusing fmla? A union won’t help that…
Everything that everyone hates about working here is easily fixed with a collective bargaining agreement/union. It's a no brainer.
I don't think it'll actually happen, but if employees actually wanted to fix things around here, this is the way.
If the union bosses are volunteer and there's no dues, "ok". Otherwise, no.
God, Get some experience and wisdom before you spew your rah, rah.
Oh no not higher pay, better benefits, and protection from a deranged management trying to make employment so miserable you’d quit to save a buck on severance! Won’t someone think of Charlie’s stock?!?!
They serve some purpose, but make themselves richer in the process.
When I was a union masonry worker, all the people that worked for the union had nicer trucks than who they represented.
They are not what they appear to be.
He-l yeah, let’s do it
Unions for white collar workers are not necessary. Not good for many blue collar either. Never good for G workers. That is why there is so much corruption in G where they have unions.
CALL ME NORMA RAE!!!! 6 months PTO 6 months sick leave for all but the C-suite!
unions suck. They drive businesses into the ground. Only reason they're even being talked about recently is the the big man has been paid lots of bribes from their interest groups and he's pushing them.
LOL!! This group has been putting out press releases and trying to unionize for about 10 years now
I see management weighed in. Apparently they don’t want their employees (no longer team members, remember) protecting themselves from management ridiculousness.
It's hard enough to get rid of useless people, unions will make it worse.
YEAH!!!! Let'd do that....NOT!
