Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Execs: We have to run this company more efficiently

Last 10 years of financials --> $180 billion dollars of profit.

All throughout my tenure here I've heard all the caution about industry headwinds, low interest rate environment, regulatory issues, etc.......and how we have to become more efficient given all these challenges, yet the company just profits billions every single year.

99% of the staff at this company doesn't really care whatseover about becoming more efficient.

Good luck becoming more efficient when everyone below the C-suite doesn't align. It's all about self-preservation.

Don't get me started. 10 years ago it was the wild west, devs committing to the dev branch and breaking the build daily. While that did indeed suck, we have strike systems in place if you do that today. Not to mention all the scripts, test cases and peer reviews we have to do. I spend far more time on the red tape than I do delivering the actual work. How many test-cases or automation scripts get run after the initial commit? All that work just to check a box. Toggles (request, waiting on implementation), endless JIRA sub-tasks and test cases/automation/QA scripts (all in different systems). I can't do my job because of .......my job.

Agree on tech. The job cannot be efficient nor fun anymore.

The only efficiency "metric" that they are interested in is profit divided by headcount.

If we got rid of the asset cap, a lot of these thoughts will dissipate or at least reduce the urgency. The asset cap and consent order just exposed these items

So much inefficiency in my job is caused by others upstream not completing their required processes & procedures. So when it gets to me, I have to correct all the prior mistakes, corner cutting etc. Of course if there is any error on the file, I am held accountable on my quality and no one else is disciplined so it will never change because everyone know that's just how it works. If the company would hold all roles accountable for accurately completing their job functions, that would cut a lot of the waste, duplicate/triplicate work being done overnight.

Just look at the ocean of red tape we deal with in tech. These processes and sub tasks are f-kin insane.
Everyone is locked into very specific duties and handcuffed… efficiency plans won’t work at least in tech.
