Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Forecasting

Essentially AT&T pays too much, for too little, too late. All the failed mergers looked backwards at mature technologies and processes in which the marginal costs exceeded the marginal revenue. Invested in satellite when streaming was the new technology. Investing in a studio failing to understand the costs of production and distribution.

Unloads assets at a lost and plays catch up in an environment strapped down with debt and a bloated workforce!!

all they had to do was make in a app to run on any streaming device.

Mediaroom is and was a closed platform. They would have had to pay Redmond to do this, who would have demanded 90% of the profits, and produced an app as good as Zune.

Alternately T could have done a whole new streaming infrastructure, which 1. T didn't know how to build and 2. Extremely capital intensive with unclear payout

So as usual the leadership reasoned they could emerge a winner through Randall's M&A genius strategy.

Corporate Development and Corporate Strategy work to please management and do not offer objective analysis. Essentially they are the buggy whip factory. Their view is that horse buggy whips need to be more flexible.

So now that you've had years to analyze it, do you think it was a bad idea?

they had att uverse all they had to do was make in a app to run on any streaming device.

it was really that simple there was no need for stank and rand to buy companies and destroy them and sell them at a lower price. I mean really what did it prove and do except hurt he consumer.

I guess there wasn't 2000% profitability in just making an app for any streaming device.

here they are trying to sell DTV's streaming device and all they had to do was make an app. how years did stank and rand preach how everything was software.

I mean really how out of touch are they and what was the point of the destruction path they left behind.
