Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Cuts....Too little, too late.

Why did it take this long for cuts to begin? T is in serious trouble financially. Losing revenue to the tune of 10% anually, $125B in debt, not much of a future in mobility and fiber. Sometimes I think Stankey and the BOD wants T to fail. I guess I just can't see the big picture!

ATT has been in a gradual decline since roughly around 2008. They spent the next decade treating employees like garbage, and now anybody of talent has left. Couple that with the fact that the company refuses to upgrade the plant they do have, or focus on old minded buys (Like buying direct, trying to force untrained employees to install it, and then selling it at a loss), instead of focusing on future minded buys (Like creating a streaming platform before the current wave of hyper competition in this field). The fact is that the company is meeting its understandable conclusion. It will continue to have cycles of failure we have seen, while occasionally being punctuated by a 0.01% increase on the market to keep you true believers alive.

Anybody who didn't see the writing on the wall over the past ten years gets what they deserve now.

Are you people crazy? T is way too big to fail. At the least I can see revenue becoming stagnant. This is a new and wonderful beginning for T. Stankey has committed to leading T into prosperity.

I see so many comments about AT&T being too big to fail. It’s been a good gig for the last hundred years or so but technical disruption is increasing exponentially. Cell phone and Internet business is going to get hit hard by technically advanced better financed players. You can try and hope to make it to retirement before the party ends but what a sad way to live your life

AT&T is NOT in financial trouble, stop. Could past decisions have been better? Yes. Could we be in better financial shape? Yes. But we’re not going out of business. As long as I keep getting my paycheck every month I really don’t care how profitable (or not) the company is.

The distractions and dead weight are not all gone. The moves Friday just moved a few useless pieces around but cut nothing after Chow and Mair were gone. Getting rid of all the CEO titles except Stankey's was a good move and putting in a COO as well although replacing Stankey with an innovative leader from outside would be preferred. Still way too many EVP, SVP, VP and AVP who are out of touch and unproductive

Make no sense.

AT&T will be around for a long time it may look different but we're not going down the tubes. Sorry if you like apocalypse po-n but this is not the place for it.

@dhb, how many phone customers & internet subscribers is it going to take to pay off all of the failed mergers/acquisitions?

Beginning of the end as you know it at T...simple.

As long as management can continue to adjust the business, we will be doing fine 10 or 20 years from now. Where else are you going to get your phone and internet from?

Big deal! Revenue still falling 10% per year. Where will T be in 10 years? One can only guess.

Content and media was a total mistake. This is where we need to be and should have never strayed. Our stock will be on the upturn in no time with all the dead weight and distractions gone.

Gain phone customers and internet subscribers last quarter. You really can't see the big picture. Or any picture really.
