Because it doesn’t seem so. I’ve had multiple hiring mgrs surprised at the state I live in when they ask me and I say I will relocate there. So it’s looking to me that if I’m not already living in a hub that I have no opportunities. Anyone else going through this?
Also, with this being a big worrying sign to me, it’s time to apply elsewhere.

Agreed. Do NOT move to a hub and think Wells Fargo will keep you employed there. It won’t. They just laid off lots of people in these hubs.

It’s because they don’t want to have to pay relocation; conversely if there’s someone already in that location that’s qualified it’s easier just to hire them.

No. Wells Freako will not promote you if you are not already in a hub, even if you are willing to move there. Outside of the hubs, you have no career advancement and layoffs are coming. Find another job.
In a similar situation and facing the same thing. No promo or even being considered for an internal role. I am part of Corp. Risk.

Someone said - Ask you manager every time you meet on what I need to do to get promoted. Well I have done that and my manager said I have been in this role for 8+ years and I have not been promoted.
if you get to the interview stage and you aren't in any of the approved locations for the role you can ask if you can stay where you are or tell them you will relocate. plenty of opportunities out there. typically the best way to get promoted at WF is to self promote by taking another role but internal promotions can happen. not only have I been promoted internally multiple times over the years but have also been able to get my employees promoted. just don't expect to get promoted without pushing for it. coming in everyday and doing a good job won't get it done. you need to Lester your manager everytime you meet asking them what do I need to do to get promoted, keep it top of their mind. and should you get promoted, start asking again how you get promoted to the next level.
Wells has hubs all over the country. It's unlikely they'll promote you, but it never hurts to ask.
At a younger age, I didn't understand the difference between hub caps and wheel covers. I still don't. And any time someone tries to explain, I have no choice but to abandon the conversation, and then imagine that I'm in New England eating fish and chips.
If you apply for a job and make it clear to HR that you’ll relocate to a hub, you won’t have a problem getting an offer. But they will put a formal timeframe in your offer letter and in most cases you have to move at your own expense, so make sure you’re willing to do it.
@gly yep I think it’s obvious what they were asking. If they are not in a hub but said they would move to a hub for a promotion. Regardless, They aren’t getting opportunities after interviewing with hiring managers because they aren’t already located in a hub. SMH
If I understand, you're applying for jobs in other states that would result in move up? Applying up is really the only way to get "promoted" 'round these parts. Wells typically does not promote in place.
Why do you want to stay with a co where their hiring mgrs can’t read your profile to see where you’re located? I think you have your answer. Find another job elsewhere where the employees know how to read.
Unless you worked at JP in the past 10 years do not expect a promotion
