Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

T needs to get streamlined again

Before SBC came along, T had the company management streamlined to an acceptable level, an overdue departure from the old Bell system way of conducting business. Then came SBC, an RBOC, (Regional Bell Operating Company) that became big enough to purchase AT&T. What happened after that is T went right back to the old Bell system. Layer after layer of unnecessary management on the payroll for appearance sake only. Personnel that T could have easily done without, but that was the Bell system mentality back in the day, a virtual monopoly in the telephone business. They hired anybody, family, friends, friends of friends! Now, T needs to get away from that business model and get this company streamlined once again or change will be slow and painful!

Why are there organizations in AT&T dedicated just to administrating executive perks and compensation? How is this justified?

Bring back the telephone booths. They were serious money makers. Back in the days.

Just keep whining. That's how you run a company.

Wow, that's a really intelligent contribution to this blog site! I'll bet it you a long time to come up with such a pursuasive argument! You're obviously management material to be thinking outside the box like that...genious, absolutely genious!

Wow, so many back seat CEO's. Know how to run a big company from an anonymous forum. Don't wake up and come back to reality though.

You don't have to be a CEO to know how to run a company or what works and what doesn't! The past and current CEO combined couldn't figure it out until it was too late and they're supposed to be the experts! A lot of it is common sense and past experience. You don't just throw stuff against the wall and hope something sticks!

TO: Post ID: @wnu+1gdlicq1 You are exactly right but the problem is they will protect each other at the top and their Gofers/Glorified Secretaries/Chief of Staff and cut the L1/L2workers

They did not hire "anybody".
There were tests, physical tests and multiple interviews when I got hired as a lineman in 1980.
They called references and looked at school transcripts.
You are wrong, as that was pre divestiture.

SBC should of let Att go bankrupt. They bought a company that was going bankrupt and the started to run the the company like that bankrupt company. Should of bought it and never brought any of their management who put the company in that position to continue their career. They rewarded the people who bankrupt Att.

AT&T is AVP, VP, SVP, CEO, CFO and Chief of Staff heavy. All that is being done is passing around power points, spread sheets and emails between people that make over $200k a year. It is time to clean house and get rid of the dead weight!!
