The current situation for the company pretty much dictates that since the work is not there to sustain a tech or techs, then a headcount reduction is warranted. It's a pretty simple concept and sound business sense. In areas of the country where the volume of work has declined, then adjustments need to be made based on the metrics.

Why would there be a 4ESS switch from the 80s in Dallas? The HQ is there. The Ericsson HQ is there. It makes no sense.
Search up watchdog AT&T suite 400. You will see what does make sense.
There certainly are a lot of people commenting that have no clue...... I can tell because they have no concept of what class 4 means regarding switching........... and I really don't care if they learn or not......
4ESS is technology from the early 80s if I'm not mistaken because I was at Bell Labs and would see the rooms with the switches...should have been decommissioned already.

I'm an old codger working the Tandem and I refuse to retire. Why retire? I sit around all day watching the Emergency Action Page & listening for Bo-g Bo-g alarms. Replace circuit packs on occasion & send those packs to repair/return. Best gig ever. Money, benefits, breaks, lunch and a retirement job. Wake me up - I may be in HEAVEN.
4E is outdated switch the wirelines, mainly legacy T, uses. If it isn't part of you vocabulary you're lucky because you aren't in the dead end of the business with a bunch of old codgers.

Pretty sure OP is referencing the 4ESS switch primarily found in Legacy T central offices throughout the country The company is in a long drawn out process of turning these down. It Bear in mind there’s are switches with approximately 8-10 aisles of eqpt that require 3-4 power plants to operate
