Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Work can be done in a better way from home.

The only reason they are forcing RTO is to have more control over employees and because they don’t know what to do with the office space now.

@1rzi I believe this…100%!

I am already seeing them just walk up to people in the middle of them working (can’t do that when WFH bc IM is not the same) and treating ppl differently, and I’ve already seen a spat between employees. The manager seems to love hearing about it and coaching them. So pathetic!

One reason is well known in psychological circles (Psychology degree'd team member here).

The general theory states that "Leaders have a need to observe that their followers are experiencing some level of discomfort".

It's really a thing, and if you look around you'll see evidence all over, not just at WF and not just at "work".

@zpt spoken like someone who's never lived in a major city. I did, and I saw people living 3+ in a studio apartment to afford it while empty storefronts littered the neighborhood.

This is a common fallacy. If you turned that into housing you’d still have people coming in, paying taxes, etc. they would need grocery stores and gas stations and parks and entertainment just like people in the suburbs do. And entertainment venues would stay open, sporting stadiums would stay open, and still bring people to the city center for those things. All of that would still bring in revenue. People don’t ride a train into the city to walk around and look at office buildings. They come for their event, maybe to eat, then go home.

@aai which is why you convert office space to housing. You replace those customers.

Adapt to stay relevant, right?

there are countless reason, some to do with office space, some with control, but also politics, if people aren't coming into city centers then there is a whole lot of tax revenue not coming in and small business going under due to no one coming in to support to name a few

If you ever feel stuck with your spouse, then you should look into counseling or get a divorce. The rest of us have no issues sharing an entire home with our spouses.

People are getting tired of being stuck with their spouses 24-7 and it's SO much harder to have fun with the side piece if you don't have work, and 'working late' as a shield.
