Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

RTO vs fake interviews

RTO is still infinitely worse than fake interviews, which have been going on for decades, but it's not about keeping minorities away from jobs. It's about hiring managers hiring who they want to hire.

RTO is the real problem for employees. Don't let fake interviews overshadow that.

As usual- everything is smoke and mirrors at WF.

RTO will be and is a nightmare for employees who pay for parking with the absurd gas prices AND the ones who have long drives, greatly diminishing any quality of life, home life or anything else because of corporate property greed monger’s. I hope you all find better jobs or remote jobs who actually promote work-life balance because Wells Fargo never will.

Wells Fargo does allow promotions, they aren't always easy to get but it can happen. what usually won't happen is you manager just recognizing your hard work and promoting you, you need to push them. I was promoted last year and have a couple promotions it looks like I'll be able to push through at mid year. it probably helps that our lob is hemoriging people but promotions can and do happen.

Sometimes you work hard and your boss recognizes you've outgrown your current role. WfC no longer allows promotions. Boss posts a job that happens to be a promotional opportunity and suggests you look at the posting. It just so happens that the prerequisites match your resume exactly. Your manager is still required to interview people who pass the pre-screening but in 99% of cases we know who's getting the job. It happens and it's a work around to the no promotions policy of Wells. It has nothing to do with minorities being frozen out of the process. They get double consideration

Then when Indian managers hire only Indians for their team, no one complains. I’ve also seen black call center managers hiring only black people. Guys that won’t hire women and women managers who hire all women.

The good old boy network works all kinds of ways.

How do you know that the person the hiring manager wanted to hire, and went through the motions just to make HR happy, wasn't a minority? We'd need a lot more information about each specific case to make any valid claims of racial discrimination. Unless we're operating under the notion that any time a white person is hired for anything it's discrimination.

blind interviews could easily solve these issues

@tnu, and then there are the ones that know how to work the system and to get paid for two years of fake leave and then they retire. The one woman has been doing it for the last seven years or so. She works some and then she has to take leave for stress and that turns into six months of leave and then she comes back for a while and repeats the whole thing. She even managed two years off for falling in the kitchen and supposedly hurting her elbow (a big supposedly)! Now, she is on leave again... She will be gone for another two years and then probably retire since she is over 70 years old. She is just doing what her one buddy did recently. I don't know who their doctor is, but it is truly amazing to me that they get away with it.

We need a class action suit of discrimination. They are giving some people medical and non-medical exceptions to work from home but not others. 1 person can have the same medical condition and HR grants some WFH and others not. This is illegal and a violation of ADA

How can you say it's not about keeping minorities from getting jobs? It's precisely what's been happening for decades. Get your head out of the sand!

Man it’s times like this where I wish I could actually engage with the OPs here. You said it’s not about keeping minorities from jobs but rather hiring who they want to hire. What happens when that person always happens to be a white male? If it wasn’t a problem, why even make a requirement for one minority? Why not just do blind interviews? No hiring manager on the panel and no names. Just resumes and candidate descriptions from the recruiter.
