6 Days?

Standard work hours here is 9am-6pm, so 9 hours and I used to stay 10+ hours in the office often. before covid was another hour commute daily which meant pretty much not having any sun.

New girl at work has a kid and told me she thought it was crazy staying past 3-4pm, and it dawned on me how right she is. pretty much everyone finished working by 7pm - many stores, restaurants are already closed before I even had a chance. Also after 6 hours the effectiveness or quality of work declines.

I got nothing against 4 day workweeks - I myself work part time, but I rather work 2-4 hours for even 6 days a week and I'd like to see this approach more popularized.

Anyone else feels like this?

9am to 6pm? Must be west coast. East coast is 7-4 or 8-5. Midwest too.

You could work at a restaurant and work until midnight and on weekends. You could work at a hospital and work 12 hour days including weekends and holidays.

Stop whining and look on the bright side

I'd work on Sat if I'd be allowed to leave early. In this case I'd do a 15 min lunch and work 6 hours and 45 minutes a day, that's 7 hours. If I start at 8, I'd be out by 3pm. Sweet. The whole day is left to enjoy.

My spouses company went from a 5 day "8 hours per day" work week to a 4 day "10 hours per day" work week. Monday's through Thursdays.

What happened after a time was that Friday's turned into "just meetings in the morning", which soon became "just essential meetings", which soon became "any essential work".

By the time my spouse left that company, they were back to working 5 days a week, 10 hours per day.

Everyone’s daily rhythm is different. No way of want to work 6 days a week, even with reduced hours across the days. I need two days to unplug and rarely get them now working 10-12 hour days.

I will agree that it is crazy but management doesn’t really seem interested in getting work right-sized, just the staff.
