Diversity in name, not in actions

At Wells Fargo, a Quest to Increase Diversity Leads to Fake Job Interviews

Black and female candidates are sometimes interviewed after the recipient of a job is identified, current and former employees say.

Fake interviews are not uncommon at Wells.. It happened to me multiple times in internal interviews while employed at WFC. It was obvious the hiring manager was just checking the box during the interview and later a former colleague on another firm is announced as the new hire. All interviews should be recorded.

And I remember in the 1990s when AG Edwards' internal news letter had an article calling the firm "pure vanilla". It went on to talk about how unlike many other brokerage firms, AG Edwards stayed "pure vanilla" by offering only financial products on the street, none created by the firm. This helped the firm avoid the brokers being pushed to sell firm products to protect the customers.

A group called this racist and sued AG Edwards.

Nevermind that vanilla is brown.

This sad a** troll is really back on here daily it appears, spewing what the fake media outlets have said about white people “becoming a minority”. So much ignorance. You’re being used as a puppet, as that’s what someone with this kind of capacity is “good for”. Why not leave this country then if the majority are quite happy with the blended families and diversity we continue to grow as a collective? It’s clear this mindset is the minority so kick rocks. Your bul* is quite unpatriotic.

Sorry @1gtf+1gOHGtWq - that’s just flat out wrong! Look at the diversity stats and the other financial services companies in the St. Louis market.

Your comment sounds very similar to Chuckie’s “limited pool of black talent” comment that got Wells in this position in the first place of having to have quotas on diversity hiring.

Wells should have fixed the tone at the top by firing Chuckie on the spot. Without their action, the Board is complicit in this as well.

Being headquartered in STL has nothing to do with it. This is about hiring nationwide. The diversity candidate pool isn't as strong in STL as other cities though.

@gqi+1gOHGtWq - WFA’s problem is that it is “headquartered” in St. Louis. The conscious and some unconscious bias there against anyone who is not white is pretty prevalent.

Some 9f this is sort of accurate. However, Joe Bruno is not a reliable source. He's just out for blood because he got canned. He did not get canned for this though.

The problem was and is in HR. WFA would want to hire folks after posting the reqs etc. When folks wanted to extend offers, HR would come back and say that you need to interview minorites first to at least show they tried. The problem in brokerage is that the pools are very small to find someone licensed, in a specific location, etc

"To the extent that individual employees are engaging in the behavior as described by the New York Times, we do not tolerate it," Wells Fargo spokeswoman Raschelle Burton told the Times.

Looks like Raschelle has had her head up Chuckie’s a$$ for awhile. This is absolutely happening and directed by the company. Saying the sky isn’t blue doesn’t change its color!

Just hire the best person for the job regardless of race or s-x or whatever. Or is that too much to ask?

Is it still policy for hiring managers to make a declination call for final candidates?

Generic no thank you email, after months of hoops, is beyond tacky.

If you're a white male you don't even get an interview, that would distract from hiring the best qualified which Charlie has told HR is either a black female or a Latino with a medical condition.

How many of you reading this are laid off older white males circa 2018-2021? Their discrimination is not limited to black/brown candidates

All hiring managers have their bonuses here tied to hiring X% Women, X% Blacks, X% Latino, X% disabled. If they don't get enough their bonus is cut.

If you've ever wondered why the quality of headcount here has tanked over the last decade this is it.

This is a broader issue in recruiting at WF. Hiring managers know who they want to hire but they go through the motions with the rest of the “candidates”, diverse or not. To be fair, that’s the case at companies other than WF too. The whole “talent matching” game is a complete ruse.

So the new auditor can't be Hu-white now?
Proving once again that the push for diversity is code for anti-white.

They'll hire lesser quality candidates to make their quota. I've seen it and filed an HR complaint for it only to be dismissed as unfounded

Sorry to disappoint this guy but WF has done this for YEARS. They already decide to hire. a contractor who has been on the team for 18 mon or someone manager knows. It has nothing to do with color or skills

WF needs to learn that you can’t successfully walk the woke tightrope. You are either all-in, and hire only based on what people look like. or suffer the consequences. Stop caring about someone’s ability to do the job already!

I appreciate how they can provide statistics for how many hires weren’t white males but can’t give that same statistics for high paying jobs. Of course wells will hire minorities in call centers or operations gigs but not the high paying gigs. I smell another lawsuit

About 80% of new hires in the past couple years are not white males. Most people didn't even read this, sad. If there's discrimination its against White males. This is just a classic hit piece by the Woke DEI rage mob looking for more free stuff.

The white man who was just promoted to chief auditor has got to better than the last person or two. Both white people but both were ineffective at their jobs.

I've been in internal interviews where it was obvious they were just going through the motions to satisfy their posting/interviewing requirements. One of my parents worked for HR under one of the former heads, this is standard hush-hush practice, and has been for years.

@kti+1gOHGtWq yeah and Charlie really thinks there are plenty of minority candidates with the required skills and experience. I mean just look at his first 8 to 10 hires he did.

It's Wells Fargo why would this surprise anyone?! This is minor compared to the sales practices scandal. They thought that would blow over after it hit the news for a day or two.

Wow so when you have mass layoffs your ex employees air dirty laundry? Who woulda thunk.

This also comes out a day after they name an internal white male as chief auditor without any semblance of a candidate search

I hire people. The idea that I'd waste my time interviewing someone after I had made a selection is a joke. I have no time to "go through the motions". Identify the pool, conduct interviews, hire the best person for the job. The end. I've never done fake interviews before, been on a panel for fake interviews, or heard of anyone doing it. It's a big company, so anything is possible, but in today's cynical, litigious, and spiteful society, a false claim of such a thing is possible as well.

These fake interviews, some of the managers are not good at acting during. The questions are rushed, complements high for skill and résumé, talk of offer letter expectations and then ghosted multiple times.

Widespread based on my experience on panel interviews. Would hold up offers to the selected candidates until we completed a diverse candidate token interview. Such a waste of time for everyone.
