Looks like there’s actually something to this? They let 7 people go in my department just now. At least 4 I know were below expectations. It was a little cold-blooded— they marched them past the rest of us, kind of like a perp walk.

Not buying it. By the time you're 2 weeks out a LOT of people "know". I've been a part of these things, it's not like 2 people in the entire company knows and if they spill it the company knows who did it. There's probably dozens of people in the know if it's a layoff of any size.
The OP cannot share the details since they would be easily identified and would be terminated. Guarantee they would share as they carry a lot of guilt knowing what they know for so long. Just know that no line of business or group is safe unless you are executive level. This year will be brutal.
Displacements are usually the third Thursday of the month. I guess they want to get the long weekend started early….
