It surprises me how many people complain because the manager makes them do someone else's job (mostly the job of privileged manager's favorites).
My job is whatever my boss assigns me, but I really don't want to do other people's work anymore. I don’t know if there is any solution to this other than to quit?
my guess is those in development have had their eyes opened. Its not the manager but the VP that is horrible to the manager. That VP is as corrupt as they come. I hope he does get what's coming to him.

this might be sarcasm by poster but, everyone knows that is how people are spoken to at Oracle. this abuse is beyond unacceptable. there will be a rude awakening at some point.
RE: competitors and DB. It's obvious that the big guys are waiting to turn the lights off. Probably sooner than later. With market correction, ORCL falling (except for buybacks) inflation, looming recession, the right acquisition - it could be sooner than later. Corp does not care about securities fraud & VP's fraud. Investors will settle and the VP will be disowned and will have to take whatever the gov't has for him. They are only interested in finding the right company's to buy so that can keep them in their jobs.
Product Development is sham anyway. Oracle, as it has been known is on its death bed. There will be much written about this company and it's downfall. There are many investors that will lose their shirts because of this mess, hoipefully customers will be relieved to be out from under the pymt obligations and employees will be a better job better pay and VP's will iget what they deserve.
Some of the people who are currently working at Oracle in development really, really don't get the degree of corruption that is going on. Your manager is IN ON IT! He's not there for you to discuss anything with. Do you get it now?
At some point, the corrupt self-destruct. It may take a while but, we do get back what we put out there. Sometimes, we have to stand-up for what is right.
An Employment Attorney could retire off of Oracle's employee abuse. There was a rant that i read earlier (obviously a certain VP) and it is clear that he is no understanding that it is wrong to mistreat people. No one should have to deal with this. It's obvious that upper management does not care. Cloud is all they want and with competitors developing DB because demand is, customers are tired of paying Oracle huge fees.
I don't know why you feel like it's other people's job, just do whatever you can do in the time given and if your manager has a problem with that then point to all of the extra work.
What is a problem for me is not the workload or any honest discussion between myself and my manager.
The problem is that the managers I was working for were lying to me. Lying about me behind my back. Other people were given credit and promoted and given bonuses on my work, while they were all lying and saying I was a lazy b-m.
That is the problem. This thing that you say "if your manager has a problem with that then point to all of the extra work" does not exist for my situation. The manager I was working for knew perfectly well what I was working on and that I was doing good work. He was lying to other people about what I was doing. You can't go to the liar who is running the scam on you and complain. He doesn't care. He is just using you for his own ends and intends to dispose of you at the end.

You need to understand. My manager was LYING to me. Not just for some simple manipulation that we all might expect, but to collect bonuses for himself and the people lying with him at my expense. Wake the he-l up people!

When you are assigned to write a new application for another group entirely, you are obviously doing other people’s work. The managers involved will pretend that you weren’t even there and your current manager will say that you are the one not getting anything done. When you are doing someone else’s work you can’t do your own. Then they get rid of you so you can’t tell anyone. Then they bring someone else in and do it over again.
The project you wrote will fail in the end. But they don’t care. They just want the bonus for that little bit of work that you did. Then they move on to something else. There is no long term accountability for anything.

Someone else was doing a job. They are gone, and now you have to do it! If you can’t see that, you are probably assigning the work.

You need to quit. It's not right that you are kept behind-the-scenes doing other people's work, while they get promoted for doing absolutely nothing.

Oracle has lost lot of good managers, they are now left with some useless managers
I get paid by the hour. I'm nearly at retirement age and at this point I'm not trying to build a career ladder. Fortunately I enjoy what I do and I am good at it. At this stage I feel zero pressure to conform to metrics put in place to justify bonuses of VP's. I don't know why you feel like it's other people's job, just do whatever you can do in the time given and if your manager has a problem with that then point to all of the extra work. No other solution, if you no longer enjoy your job then there are plenty of others out there.
