We had 2 decades like this bringing up a family with a stay at home mom.and I always moonlighted a second job. I was fixing small companies and people’s computers, doing some development, training them and upgrading them.

Today it’s so much easier to generate extra cash. Uber, Grub Hub and other services can really get you ot of a financial jam especially if you apply the money to your debt. I held second jobs for at least a decade.

Good that you are driving to live dept free. Try and get that car payment down and eliminate any other big hitters to the income stream. As others have said, eliminate the cable, etc. Get to a bare bones budget and see where you are at. DO NOT rack up any CC bills unless absolutely needed and all other pay options are exhausted.
Once you land on this bare bones budget and you are still hurting its time to look at expanding the income circle.

OP, Im not sure what your salary is, but have you thought about a travel credit card to earn points? So I am an avid traveler and most of my trips are bought and paid for by points. It takes strategy and discipline to use this method and stay debt free, but if you use a charge card with points instead of cash you could use the rewards for a yearly vacation. Often times people attribute credit cards as a negative but a savvy shopper would tell you otherwise. Try going to nerd wallet and compare best travel credit cards.

Senior leadership has never, ever, ever been in touch with their troops. They live in their own worlds of excess, luxury and excess while asking everyone else to reduce expenses and tighten their belts. It's sickening!

Lastly, yes layoffs was the first Q&A question asked, where we got the typical non response answer so that’s telling. And then maybe 5 mins later it was discussion about the nice vacations. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure they need them too. But it’s in bad taste to gloat about them when the majority of your audience only gets to day dream about having those family memories while they compare prices of groceries and scour their buy nothing local groups for needs and wants. I did get a nice beach pop up from a neighbor on there, one step closer to my beach family vacation dreams..

And before anyone says “buy”, I can’t. With the limited inventory options and special needs my kid has, I have to stay in the general area we are in. And these houses are way overpriced. Where I live now is nice to us, and it is home.

I have my two kids, no cable, no Netflix, Hulu is included in my phone bill, no bottled water (use the fridge water), no ATM fees.

I have a car payment, insurance, rent, water, power, daycare, phone bill, internet bill, groceries, gas, therapies for special needs son.

I live in a major hub city. Which is the problem. Rent and gas and daycare is super expensive but I can’t afford to move. Also no point when you have to live in a hub city which is going to be expensive in general.

Yes I’ve taken PTO but I’d also like to take my kids even just to see a beach. Between gas and lodging and food, it would be around 2k.

Trust me, I’ve done all I can to find ways to cut. I was just trying to see if others that work here are in the same boat, as working for such a large profitable long standing company should give some financial stability.

And I am so sick of SVB talking about his travels. I want that accountant to go away.

I remember one November two or three years ago Shrewsbury was bragging about his family getting together at their cabin in northern California for two weeks, while in the same breadth saying layoffs were coming and we all needed to tighten our belts. I personally don't care that they have those vacations/get aways, but it's extremely poor taste when people are worried about losing their jobs.

OP, when you say you haven't had a vacation in 5 years, do you mean that you have not travelled? Or do you mean that you have not taken a week or two away from work? Big difference. A lot of people do staycations and just lounge around the house for a week or go to local shows or something similar.

I guarantee you're buying extra things.
Do you live alone?
Do you actually cook? You can buy 3,000 calories of food for as little as $1.
Do you have cable?
Do you have netflix, hulu, etc?
Do you have cellular data?
Do you drink bottled water?
Do you pay fee ATM fees?

I agree it is rude and in bad taste for our leadership to boast about their lavish overseas adventures. Most in WF can afford a car ride to a frugal and moderately priced air bnb.

Where do you live and what is your hourly pay? That's terrible if you have no debt and can't afford to live, I'm sorry this is happening to you.
