Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs on Friday

AT&T is cutting thousands of technician jobs in the Southeast Friday…

What are the chances this is true?

@4uem+1gFzSKYd nothing more inspiring than lower wages and arbitrary reductions.

Your big picture mind must be satisfied with Rand & Stank wasting billions.

The news about the proposed fiber build is for real. Anyone who remembers the Uverse fiber build should remember how much the workloads dropped in some areas. F1 work basically disappeared for the cable techs. If 50% of our plant is actually converted to fiber, think about how that will impact the food chain.

@3xdc+1gFzSKYd Spread the pain regardless of growth? By far the d-mbest comment I've seen on this site.

Bright boy, you're not looking at the big picture! There are people throughout every business unit that no longer want to be with T anymore and are just going through the motions day-in and day-out just doing the bare minimum and collecting that paycheck every payday. Let those people go with an incentive and if their position needs to be back-filled, then T can hire at a lower wage/salary. They're only hanging around anyway just waiting for T to announce a severance package and won't leave without one. T needs people that will be inspired and want to be here, not less than mediocre employees doing less than satisfactory work. Get it?

T should just do an across the board 5% reduction in every business unit no matter what in order to spread the pain across all business units whether they're in growth md or not. This would eliminate those willing to leave and allow thoses to stay that want to remain with the company. Problem solved!

And that's probably a good thing for now at least!

I guess I’ll have to stick around then. Thought of pulling the plug this year and doing my own thing, but I think I’ll stick around until at least the 1st Qtr. of 2023 and leave with a severance package. Besides, there’s no hurry and the job couldn’t be easier!

Someone always making a mountain out of a mole hill. Has to do with the upcoming announcement of the future split off of wireline and wireless. Head count will be trued up after the agreements freezing layoffs expire.

There are still a ton of temp/term techs, so they would have to get rid of them first before they could announce a surplus. The next surplus announce window is on June 15th so they wouldn’t be able to announce a layoff of permanent technicians until that date.

Do not fear, this is only a rumor and the SE won't be downsized because they have no more techs to give up!

SE region already "gave at the office". Time for other regions to pony up their fair share. It seems they are always picking on SE, not sure why.

Well the tech's don't show up for installs in the first place - so ya, peace out brother. How is it a tech can just decide not to show up for an install - while not bothering to call the customer to let them know - and keep their job for job avoidance ? All the techs who pull these stunts can go work at burger king and have it their way.

Even if that's true about the lawsuit, it doesn't mean that T can't offer the most senior techs or bargained for personnel an early severance package. There's nothing in the contact about it because there are ALWAYS loopholes in contracts and I'd be quite surprised if that wasn't one of them!

There was a lawsuit settlement and/ agreement that said no layoffs till 2023(I don’t recall if it was beginning or end of 23)

Cut those unneed workers. Don't need workers if there isn't enough work.

Just trying to "do the needful" there Satish.

Yeah, naw. Go troll elsewhere. Now for non bargained, ANY day could be the day for the axe to fall on thousands.

Why? How? We don't have enough technicians for the workload now. I average 3 hours OT M-F, 9-10 hours on Sat/Sun. Who would pickup the work if there is a layoff?
