Devops? Ha! The current "devops" solution doesn't even work half the time when we are forced to upgrade to the latest steaming pile they served up. My group was told by the devops support (srsly, it's so bad you have to have a support team for it) never to use the .0 version because there is so little testing done on it. Nevermind that they force us to turn on features that dont work and block our builds. Trufflehog? Wow, what a brilliant idea! A python script with no way to mark false positives or clear remediated items. Fu----g amazing! Someone got paid big bucks for that idea, and it almost took a full on mutiny to get them to move away from their proposed "solution" of rewriting git history.
Srsly, at WF, devops is where you send developers who cant code and are too stupid to be a QA (which ain't a high bar at WF)

Sounds like WFC needs to learn a little something about devops.

Traditional QA analyst and manual testing roles has simply been moved to the user (Operations) community.

The development team is responsible for unit testing and automated testing.

QA Analyst that do not want to learn automation should start looking for manual testing roles outside of the development group.

The agile play book does call for UAT and groups are hiring UAT testers to perform manual testing.

It seems that many people are uninformed about what is going on around them, as far as agile is concerned.

Psst, we tried that a couple years ago. It was called the "Center of Excellence" model. It was a miserable failure, because none of the QA knew anything about the products they were testing because they kept getting shifted around to whatever product was currently on fire.

Lol, you think manual qa is a valuable thing in 2022. All the other big boys dumped their script jockeys years ago. The fact that WF still has them shows just how far behind the times they are. The future (AKA, 15 years ago) is unit tests and testing automation. The days of paying a human to run the same test script 5 times a week that doesn't actually find any of your bugs because it's a happy path test written by someone with zero understanding of the actual system are long gone. I can write more tests in a day than a fully staffed QA dept will be able to run in the entire release cycle while simultaneously testing more parts of the system than they could ever hope to get to... and have it run on every single build. Management figures QA is easy enough to be automated because they have no clue just how many performance issues many of the dev and prod support teams have.

So true! The decision a year and a half ago to fire all the QA managers and move the QA testers to DEV management was a wrong and unwise move. We are seeing lots more production issues because QA isn’t supported when they say the scope is too large to be tested safely in the shorter time frames. The thought was that all QA would be able to become automation engineers quickly but the tools and training hasn’t made that happen. Manual QA is important and is a big piece of successful releases, but by empowering Dev to manage QA and shrug off their value is not smart. Dev mgmt never says no to business —- miss QA management who knew when to say no.

The QA role is being replaced by automation in theory. I would up skill to a development role.
