Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I have received contact from recruiters

Every time the job they have to offer is not as good as the one I have with Wells. I am not looking. But if I ever get layed off, I hope this is not some sort of indication of what the job market will be like for me.

I've dipped my toe in the water to see what the job market is like and if something much better comes along. I've found that with my role, tenure, experience it isn't exactly easy to match (or significantly exceed) what I already make at Wells. I'd have to go to a FAANG company.

Think about this a minute. If the job were great and.or easy to staff, they wouldn't need recruiters aggressively spamming your inbox. They'd just need to post it and let the motivated go-getters find it and apply for it. I get two extremes; either a way underpaid contract for dullards or something high-paying where they want me to wear about four hats, lead an initiative, and be the chief architect on some hard-to-find tech stack.

Getting spam from India based recruiters for contract work does not count.

It’s not an indicator. Should you get laid off, you become less desirable to employers. Therefore, the job offers will be even worse than the ones you are getting. Sorry, there’s no way to supercoat it. Any way you can get some education and training to improve your skillset and marketability while you remain in your current role? Best of luck.

Recruiters are lower than politicians.

Yep. I was laid off a year ago. I just accepted a job with one of Wells competitors. Pay may be better, but it's not better than Wells.
The grass isn't always greener, and if you get laid off, you almost just have to grab anything just to keep working, whereas if you leave voluntarily, you can take your time looking, weighing pros, and cons.👩‍💻
