Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Layoffs would equal a disaster for Oracle

They've already stripped so many teams to bare bones, if they cut any more, especially in this job market, they'd be dooming the company. I know the management views employees as a cost first and foremost, but even they are not stupid enough to think that the work will magically get done on its own. Layoffs are just not feasible right now.

Oracle IS a disaster. Layoffs or not.

I wouldn’t hold your breath for an early retirement option. I was hoping for that a while back. Oracle figures if they treat everyone like dirt, they’ll just leave on their own. Why bother paying people to leave when you can make them leave for nothing. It’s all about lining LE’s pockets. Nothing else matters.

"Layoffs would equal a disaster for Oracle"

No, they wouldn't.

One obvious solution, employed in many governments and industries, they could float out voluntary retirement options. That would clear away some expenses in a way that would be looked on favourably

Don't worry. Even in the groups that get slashed, the remaining schmucks will eventually scar over. That's what being a doormat at Oracle is all about.

Don’t expect any raises either at a company $73 billion in debt. It is time to get out.

Oracle is $73 billion in debt. Second highest of any tech company. There will be cuts somewhere because that money has to come from somewhere. The only thing that’s certain is that it won’t come from LE’s pockets. LE will be holding on to his $174 billion in wealth.

Upper management will be looking at spreadsheets. They don’t care what the reality is on the ground. If your area is one that they think needs to be cut they will do it. It might then be that you are stressed for a short time thinking you have to get work done in your area with fewer people. But if it’s intended that your area “melt away” then they don’t care. Your stress is unimportant to the bottom line.

It’s the numbers that they will be working with. Customers in areas that are melting away are also not important. Of course they won’t tell you what the overall plan is. So you won’t know if you matter or not.

One of the downsides of working at a dying company is where the cuts will have to be done. Get out of Oracle and save yourself a lot of headache and stress. Growing companies are much better to work for.

Why not find another job in a company that isn't a sweatshop?

Yet another desperate plea emanating from deep in the trenches at Oracle. Seriously, do you really think that matters as far as Oracle's big picture strategy is concerned? Which of these teams is so crucial to Oracle's future that they cannot survive further cuts?

Hardly. Cuts will come from places that aren't strategic anyway. The situation today is absolutely no different than what has happened previously. The parts that really matter (e.g., SAAS) will be relatively unaffected. Sure, the lives of the schmucks who are stuck trying to sell/support already dying products/services with insufficient headcount will suk more than they do today, but who really cares?
