I doubt it will BYO right away. I’d guess they roll it out and lock down the devices people are currently using - thus forcing all work to be done in the virtual session - with the option to use a personal device to connect from home. Then slowly they’d begin to phase those out over a period of time.
I thought Wells was supposed to be far behind in tech , even hardware. All of this byod sounds kinda like the latest and greatest to me.
I used to be considered a super user and got a better computer but I don't need that any so I've got your basic Dell

Would love to know more about what’s coming with this virtual solution. I know it’s supposedly BYOD and they take away our laptops, and force us to use the virtual solution on our own device. But does it apply to everyone? Or just certain groups? And when is it tentatively schedule to roll out. Any intel?

Better hope you don’t get forced to use the virtual solution coming. You may access it from a Mac but it will be a Windows session. No plans for Max sessions.
1smx+1fVTZzIg Is right - the brand of audio chip/wireless card/etc is generally the same across brands and one of them -Realtek- has changed their drivers for the worse.
Laptops are generally all the same across specs. Low end uses roughly the same parts across manufacturers, mid range has a bit more variety but is largely the same, and high end which WF does not buy offers greater variety. BIOS may differ or external pieces may differ but outside of that it’s largely a different brand slapped on a slightly different shell.

Wireless issue is due to poor drivers but it’s generally the same drivers Dell uses too. Monitor connectivity is a firmware update for the screen itself.
Unless exec/upper level (and tech?), you get leased HP ProBook G8, which has had lots of issues with wireless connectivity and monitor connectivity.

I’m surprised the field tech didn’t know that we do not own our own desktops and laptops. We lease them. They often won’t reuse the ones in bad shape, but if it needs a spare part or two it can save them money overall.
I have a refurbished HP. Got it about three years ago.
The first one I had crapped out in six months. When the tech came around to look at the old one and install the replacement I asked him if WF really saves any money by using refurbished laptops since they are notorious for failure.
His response was "That's a good question".
But I suspect some bean counter looked good and got a big bonus.

The international chip shortage forced them to reuse older devices for a bit longer due to low supply. They are expected to continue being in low supply through 2023.

I’ve got a list of around 300 people in WIM with Dells. It might be true for your area due to what’s ordered by whoever does your ordering, but it’s not true for the whole LOB.
I dunno, all I know for sure is that 3-4 years ago I got a great laptop, very speedy. When I failed I got a new one that is a slow POS. I'm ready for virtual desk top.
WIM is all HP. I didn't think we still used Dells. They're still out there because they haven't been replaced yet via lifecycle

No, it’s really not. You put in a ticket and if it has to be swapped you’ll get whatever is in stock at the time. Sure you can have preferences and they do their best to stick to those when ordered by your mgr/procurement person - but HP/Dell are basically the same and if a swap is needed you’ll get whatever is there. There is no hard rule mandating one brand for a specific department.

This is not true at all. We have both Dell and HP devices in the office - new models too, not just the older ones.
