Seeking HR Perspectives

To all the HR folks out there who are denying valid and reasonable medical accommodations and location change requests, how do you get through the day knowing you are negatively impacting people’s lives? How?

Personally HR was always a liability. As a manager they were partially useless. Avoid HR at all costs but if you need an accommodation it goes through them not your manager. Don’t be surprised if they negotiation 1-2 days in office. Just say no and make sure the DR not says why.

HR employees have their own set of troubles, trust.

As others have said, HR does not exist to take care of employees. They are there 100% to protect the company and senior executives. But this is not a WF thing, it’s true of EVERY large company.

"What did people do before COVID?" Thousands of us had WFH agreements that simply went POOF!

he works for the company and not you. also, WFH may not be the only available accomodation. what did people do before COVID. and I'm guessing that if someone gets squeemish looking at the inside of humans they probably chose a different career path.

HR is spineless and is nothing more than the C suites soundboard. When Charlie says jump, HR says “how high”. You don’t honestly think HR serves to assist employees do you? They are there to protect management. Always been that way and always will be.

We don’t work for a firm and people who use that term should be automatically qualified for dismissal.

I got an approved accommodation because I need to po-p every 30 minutes. Guess they didn’t want to pay for all the toilet paper I use. Now I sit at home on the toilet all day playing games on my phone.

It's good to remember that HR's #1 role is to protect the firm.

@OP if you had to do the job in order to keep feeding yourself and having a roof over your head, would you still feel that way?

Do you wish every surgeon was squeamish while operating?

It depends on what your classification of “valid” is. There are a lot of requests that are “valid” to the person submitting them, but in reality it’s completely unwarranted or completely invalid.
